If proved that they fixed that match the whole integrity of the league is at question especially if Reading stay up by a point. Losing again yesterday at home too? Their form since promotion is at best unprofessional at worst corrupt. I'd ban them from promotion if found guilty.

They made six changes for that game they wouldn’t have done that had they not already been promoted

Mad I've been thinking about this myself. They've done us no favours lately. They've totally smashed the league then suddenly against the bottom sides they've dropped points. The stats for yesterday's game look very strange. 80%+ possession loads of shots, the stats suggest they blew QPR to pieces. I would of never of considered a QPR win yesterday. I know this is about the Reading game but yesterday doesn't add up also. Not putting the effort in since promotion is bad sportsmanship. I've been fuming with Burnley lately.

Use some lame excuse about utilising his squad I expect or the famous " my players were on the beach " game we all love has become rotten to the core and I'm not saying this as it could impact us but in general.

PS. Company off to Spurs ??

Anyway now those games have gone by we could do with Burnley staying like this. Don't want them back full guns blazing when they play us I suppose.

Apparently Burnley fielded a weakened team v Reading.

As long as they do the same for us.

I might add that "strongest side " is subjective, I mean, ask anyone on here our strongest side and you'll get a couple of dozen answers.

Putting out a team that not as strong as usual after you have won the league I have no problem with It is a squad game after all
Match fixing is something very different

Re: Burnley are under investigation by the EFL for potential

I have no problem with this, you are given a number of players to register in your squad so why should you be punished for using them? Teams shouldn't have to rely on other teams and should pick up the points themselves

Re: Burnley are under investigation by the EFL for potential

Sun Apr 23, 2023 8:52 am

If they are guilty of this then that's disappointing

But as for the championship let's make sure we stay up because of our own results

Re: Burnley are under investigation by the EFL for potential

They used to charge teams for making more than five changes to a team, not sure why they stopped it. But all that usually happened was a small fine.

That's all that will come of this, if anything.

It was a game they dominated as usual, with 75% possession and 16 shots. If they had found a goal, nobody would have raised any concerns.

Don't think there's any wrongdoing here. Even if they are deemed to have broken rules, all they'll get a small fine like I said.

Wouldn't class it as match fixing, more match integrity.

Not seen the teams, but chucking 6 youngsters in by sounds of it. Fair enough. They probably still expect to win. But they've got the league nailed on and the opposition were still fighting for every point!

You make a fair point up to a point. Yes, teams should pick up the points themselves, but the league system doesn't work like that if your closest opponents in the league are unfairly "gifted" points by teams that they play against are not fielding a credible line up. Also I believe this is for potential match fixing, which is an entirely different matter.

If you saw the highlights yesterday you would not question Burnley's desire to win. Three shots cleared of the line by defenders and the QPR goalkeeper was outstanding Burnley could have been 5 up by halftime.

Completely misleading OP. Burnley have been asked about why they made 6 changes for the reading game. Match fixing has not been mentioned and nothing will come of this.

complete nonsense, they have a squad, they have to pay money to employee that squad, they should be able to use that squad as they deem fit.

just like liverpool, arsenal, man utd, spurs, chelsea, man city and even ourselves in early cup compwtitions - nothing wrong with it at all!

Total non story. Nothing in it and nothing will come of it.

Stoke made six changes to their team yesterday from the side that played mid week because they're safe . we've just got a squad full of league 1and 2 player's that's why we are pants.

Re: Burnley are under investigation by the EFL for potential

You couldn't make it up. Not only do Burnley allegedly field a weakened side against our relegation rivals but now the EFL have guaranteed that Burnley will make sure they will field their strongest side against us. Why didn't they keep quite until after the season ended? Opposition to the transfer embargo, Rotherham debacle and now this. Someone on the EFL doesn't like us. I wonder who?

Re: Burnley are under investigation by the EFL for potential

Burnley will have full team out against cardiff as its there last game at home and they will be partying with there fans and want to give them a good send off they are having there break now

Re: Burnley are under investigation by the EFL for potential

Sun Apr 23, 2023 2:31 pm

Won't happen.

I think the EPL should make Rotherham sacrifice 3 points on Thursday and award them to us, as that was a real stich up.

Re: Burnley are under investigation by the EFL for potential

Sun Apr 23, 2023 6:57 pm

What will come of this is they will put their strongest side against us and give it 100%

They’ve earned the right to do it. Not their failure they’re promoted with a few games left, they earned the right to test out a few youngsters and give some game time ready to plan for next season.

Re: Burnley are under investigation by the EFL for potential

The thing is some playing weekly now they are up won't be there next season if the manager don't have a look at them over a run of games. It's how it goes. Alot of then players probably won't be there next season by the time a balls kicked I suspect if they want to stay up.

Ned, I agree with you here and I don't believe there is anything 'sinister' in a litte drop in form of Burnely now that promotion and the championship title (in real terms) have been secured

We've seen many a team take their (proverbial) foot off the gas once their season's objectives have been met and/or their league status maintained. It's sad but psychological part of football

Where we might have an issue is where we have to play two of the side battling to avoid the drop with ourselves, Rotherham and Huddersfield, so those are going to be genuine games where both sides will fight for the win

Forget the original Rotherham game. It's gone and we can only go do it all again on Thursday in the knowledge they will be as up for it as we are before we move on to Neil Warnock's Huddersfield

The final game, of course, is at that very Burnley club this thread is about. I don't see them laying down for us, although I really hope we have gained the three points we need in the two games before that... :ayatollah:

What's always puzzled me with these stories is, apart from the manager, who defines it as a "weakened team"? I remember Klopp getting stick previously.

If a manager wants to play their under13s, so be it.
