i was born and grew up after all this had died down, but it always fascinated me how fans would say "i hated them, or they really battered us" but have the utmost respect for each other, you see these European "firms" and they literally kill each other, something very British about the respect shown

The British were very more respectful, it was lad v lad on the day and no real hatred and now 99% of us are friends.

It was the era of growing up in the late 70’s & 80’s that’s how it was at football.

I'll never forget that Leeds FA cup game at Ninian in the 70s.

I use to stand behind the Grange End goal for all games but for this one my place was taken and I with my mates had to stand on the corner of the Bob Bank. Behind us were about 100 Leeds fans and to our left on the corner of the Grange End there must have been over 2000 Cardiff taunting the Leeds. This was 2 hours before KO.

Fair play to the Leeds they stood there on the corner of the Bob Bank facing the Cardiff where there was NO SEGREGATION. Can you imagine a stand off like that these day. Our attention was then turned to the pitch where a couple of Leeds fans without a care in the world were walking on the grass showing off their Leeds scarves. Next thing a couple of Cardiff lads appeared carrying a long Cardiff scarve between them. They wrapped the scarve around one of the Leeds fans then flung him into the other Leeds fan. A fight broke out and we in the crowd started cheering on the 2 Cardiff lads. The fight did not last long, the Police for once were quick off their toes for that, BUT it triggered the most dangerous thing I have ever witnessed.

Once that fight was stopped it triggered off the 2000 Cardiff fans to rampage the Leeds fans behind us. They were like an army of ants charging down a hill and they were coming for me and my mates. We could do nothing about it, the ground was nearly full, so we grabbed hold of each other in the hope we would survive. The Leeds fans made their escape while myself and my mates were pushed to the half way line. That's where we stayed while we watched the Cardiff make there way back to the Grange End.

We only saw one arrest that day as we watch a Cardiff fan escorted to the tunnel waving his scarf. The scarf knocked the Police mans helmet off who in turn made the Cardiff fan pick it up. That produced a great cheer from us.

The rest of the day was calm with Leeds winning comfortable 2-0 but they were top of the 1st Division and we were in a 2nd division relegation fight so that was expected. We played well considering with Don Revie, Leeds manager, saying on Match of the Day that evening that we should not be anywhere near a relegation fight. Where have we heard that before.

I remember Aston Villa pouring in huge numbers onto the Bob directly from the Ninian Park Rail link in 1971. No fences between the Grange and the Bob mayhem. I was with my old man and my uncle from Detroit he was stunned total mayhem.I was ten and totally fascinated started going on the Port Talbot CCFC bus after that got a clip from a man against Burnley on the Bo, terrified same season all part of life I suppose.

I have heard about this and they now try to say Villa took our end, but it’s because I think they got on their first?

I can state with absolute certainty Villa did not take the Grange. Absolute carnage it was like a war film they charged each other then backed away and charged each other again hysterical unless you were in the middle. Old Bill let them get on with it
then got involved . I remember a City player about to take a throw in just stopped and looked on in disbelief. I think Toshack copped a hat trick I believe it was 4 -1 at the end.
