" Reading relegated "

Thu May 04, 2023 6:50 pm

Reading have been relegated from the Championship, joining Blackpool and Wigan, after Huddersfield beat Sheffield United.

It means Reading end their nine-year stay in the Championship and will play in the third tier for the first time since the 2001/02 season. During that time, they had three seasons in the Premier League.

The only thing still to be decided on Monday's final day is the play-off places. Luton will finish 3rd and Middlesbrough will finish 4th. The remaining places will go to two of Coventry, Millwall, Sunderland, West Brom and Blackburn.

Burnley won the title and Sheffield United joined them in automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Add a bit of excitement to the last day of the season if Huddersfield lose tonight.

Like a Play off for relegation.

Great goal from Ward but Huddersfield really benefiting from yet another team on the beach. If this fixture was four weeks ago, I have no doubt the outcome would be different.

Absolutely.

The last games came just at the right time for them. Us safe and off the back of a backlog of fixtures. Sheff U promoted and off the back of a high profile FA Cup Semi Final.

Reading finished 21st last year but ran out of luck this year. We have to learn from their lesson as we look like finishing 21st this season. Huddersfield certainly had a lot of fortune with their fixture list but fair play to them as they've been bottom 3 for most of the season.

Our own situation spookily similar to Readings. Established in the Championship, small time in the Premiership and then affected by EFL rulings.

We have so far stayed away from point deductions but for how long?

Well done Neil Warnock - yet again shows he can galvanise a team. What a man manager he is.

A report said:

Apparently The John Smith's Stadium was deafening at full time with all 20,172 fans making as much noise as possible as the players did their lap of thanks around the pitch, followed by a guard of honour from the lads for Neil Warnock and Ronnie Jepson – the atmosphere was incredible.

Huddersfield Town beat promoted Sheffield United 1 nil.

I mean, how good is NW, just incredible.

And that will teach Reading to accuse us of racist chanting at theirs a few seasons ago. Ho Ho Ho.
