Championship promotion this season v next season

Fri May 05, 2023 8:54 am

With the embargo over us im hoping its not all doom and gloom.
Imo all promotion contenders this year do not look like star teams with star names, although some with good backing none have splashed the cash. Every team i see fighting for promotion from burnley down to blackburn have assembled good squads with decent players and with good managers in charge. Even the likes of luton, coventry are there who are on a shoestring like us.

This gives us hope for next season. With lamouchi and bamba in charge next season we could have something special and punch way above our weight. If lamouchi can use the free transfer marker well we can get some real quality in to add to the good foundation we got in from the re vamp last season, then we could have a very good side. And on the positive side of not being able to sign any players or loans for fees, hopefully vincent tan will push the boat out on wages, back lamouchi to bring in free transfers and loans with high wages to blow competition out the water to get the quality in we need. Come on city

Potentially some good teams dropping down next season. All those teams at the bottom of the prem are decent. I'd expect if Everton dropped with their new stadium etc.. They could do a Newcastle and smash the championship. Leeds, Forest, Leicester, Southampton etc. Will all be tough opposition though they will also lose players but will be able to attract and have the parachute payments.

I’ll be happy staying in the championship next season with a transfer embargo to deal with still. Though I think we’ll be able to get mid table if sabri stays and can get some of his players on frees and loans

I could see everton being very strong with dyche in charge. The rest it wouldnt surprise me seeing them struggle like norwich and watford have this season

From what I am hearing there is a lot of hope from the club that what we have will be a stronger unit for next season. We bought in 17 players that had never played together. There is a belief that they would have grown together and be a lot stronger for it.

Also the club feels we played with a few gaps in the team due to long time injuries caused at the beginning of the season. No need for me to showed where these gaps were. So with 17 new players followed by these injuries you know the saying "It can only get better".

There is hope we will keep hold of Kipre and Kaba. Kaba would be my priority. I personally can't see us being allowed to bring anyone else in of worth.

So taking all this into account I just feel its a risky game we are playing.

On paper they look strong but Everton have spent a lot and so have Forest, so the parachute payment will be a drop in the ocean compared to their outgoings unless they can shift players.

Not so sure the teams coming down will spend loads and not sure about their squads.

Everton - would lose Onana, Calvert-Lewin, Gray etc. Owner won't spend much either because their new stadium is costing a lot.

Leicester - Maddison and Tielemans certain to leave. That's all their creative players gone.

Southampton and Leeds - average squads.

Admittedly Leeds and Leicester would spend if they came down. But despite their big names, most teams won't fear them.

I won't be surprised if Plymouth compete for top six, got a good model there.

Not for us to worry about though, we'll be in a relegation battle.

Sadly the last three seasons I have been right, I said that we would struggle more than the previous season.

The Hierarchy have tried to do it with No money getting the local media to make out we had 12 amazing younger players that come through two seasons ago and it nearly got us relegated and where are those 12 now been given away the majority and a few still not starting our games.

Then this season I was slated for saying these 17 new players will struggle under an amateur of a manager Steve Morison with an attitude and the league table does not lie: 3 managers and a caretaker and we’ve ended up 21st in the League unless we beat Burnley our lowest position for over 20yrs.

I am told Tan is cutting the budget even more abd that’s why you will see players like Mark Harris offered a new contract, very very cheap, a lower league club will offer him more, he’s not a Championship player.

Teams coming down will be strong once again.

Glen Williams of Media Wales will once again make out every signing is sensational and do Dalmans PR for him.

We will say once again a massive clear out is needed and stability, how many times to keep saying it and hearing it? ?

We had 14,500 Season ticket holders this season.

I renewed My 3 once again.

If fans really believe in Tan and that Lamouchi will set the Championship alight then we will sell at least 14,500 next season.
