Vincent Kompany insists Burnley:

Sun May 07, 2023 1:50 pm

Vincent Kompany insists Burnley will not be taking their foot off the gas when it comes to Monday's game with Cardiff.

Burnley have double the points Cardiff City have 98pts to 49pts, thats what investment and a good management team can do.

Burnley take on the Bluebirds in front of a sell-out crowd at home and the Clarets will be looking to reach the 101-point mark before lifting the Championship trophy at full-time. Cardiff meanwhile, want to end their own season on a high.

An amazing 1,700 Cardiff fans will be following the Bluebirds in what is their worst position in the Leagues for over 21 years.

Vincent Kompany said:

"From the two sides, we’re now all of a sudden the one who definitely want to win this game. For us, it’s an important game. It’s the final game of the season, in front of our home fans.

“The trophy lift on top of it. We’re wanting to make a good day out of it and make it a day to remember for all the fans.

“I think this game, we’ve got a couple of players that we definitely want to give a chance. I think it’s no secret that Barnsey (Ashley Barnes) will be an important figure for that game and some other players.

“We just want to be strong. In general we just want to win this game, it’s an important game for us and it can be a special day."

They'll want to celebrate in style.

Won't be surprised if we play a few fringe players but they'll probably be full strength.

Remember going to Burnley when we won the title there with Malky in charge. How times change.

Much has been made of Joel Bagan's potential in recent years. Indeed, the purple patch of success he enjoyed just over a year ago when he scored three goals in as many games was thought to be something of a launchpad for him.

But it's just not happened and Bagan has gone backwards and with Jamilu Collins back from injury next season and Cardiff having already been linked with Fulham's Joe Bryan, who has been on the transfer shortlist for a number of transfer windows, it's time Bagan proved he is capable of one day being City's first-choice left-back.

Sabri Lamouchi has confirmed Bagan will travel to Burnley, so there is a likelihood that he will start. Eli King is also heading to Turf Moor and he could also be slotted into a midfield three. Another player who is spoken highly of behind the scenes at Cardiff, King is also out of contract and Lamouchi also wants him to stick around.

Eli King has also travelled.

Brilliant support for a game that means nothing but we needed that away support in games when it mattered.
