CCFC ‘ Seven players being Released ‘

Mon May 15, 2023 7:38 am

Darren Purse called in all the players from the U21 Squad and virtually every player who’s contract ended have been released, approx seven players.

Lamouchi had No in put at all on this, but weird as he has had a contract offered to him.

For me Darren Purse had done awful in the last two seasons

Leahy has been released.

Lennon Peake has been offered the final year of his 18mths original contract that was originally offered by Mark Hudson, but Purse wanted to send him to a Welsh League club for 6mths, what the hell do we keep sending our players to the Welsh League for???
Not one player has come back and made it.

Many of the remaining U21’s that have contracts till 2024 are being sent out next season to Welsh League Clubs and lower Non league clus again lol.

I think we need to get a good U21 manager in as once again we are going backwards and have produced NO one again to start on the first team.

So Peake is considering offers from Ipswich, Oxford, Charlton, AFC Wimbledon and Reading.

I guess there are two ways of looking at this...

1. It is the manager who should come to this decision with Purse. Not Purse on his own, or Purse and some exec with little or no footvall knowledge. This is insane, but this is Cardiff City.

Or

2. At least this may signal the end of the experiment of promoting kids to the first team who are clearly neither ready or good enough.

The big problem however is if these kids are now gone and we do not enhance our first team squad, how is our squad going to be bulked out in 23/24??

Still a case of wait and see, but we need some defintive news on our strategy and quickly.

It would not surprise me if the Under 21/23 cost between 2/3 million a year to run When you take into account salaries , insurance and travel etc
Not sure that we are ever going to see a return from it Be better off picking the best couple of kids from the under 18s each year Train with the first team and loan them out on weekends to play in league of Wales.
Instead we have 20 odd players who are nowhere near the first team and likely never will be I would rather the money spent on the first team After all that is what most of us are interested in anyway
Yes we will miss out on some local talent or late developers but the risk you take. If we become an established premier league team then that is totally different thing as the money will be around to spend but until then I would say get rid of the under 21/23

This seasons budget for the Accademy was £500,000 our lowest for years

Most of the players are on very very low wages.

They also get plenty of Sponsors etc and big grants.

But we def need to start producing a couple of players for the first team.

When you say academy do you mean from under 8s to under 23 ?

Loaning players to the Welsh prem is a hell of a lot easier than to the English system.
But I agree, if they are promising loan then to an English league team.

Annis, I couldn't agree more with you on the poor handling of all of this; but particularly the handling of Lennon Peak...

Here we have a talent returning from serious injury, who has slowly but surely improved game on game in the U-21's (even Darren Purse admits that), has several goals and at least one Man of the Match accolade, yet he is once again being messed around with the possibilty of him taking his obvious talent elsewhere...

No offence to the Welsh League persay but it is not where we want one of our most promising talents when opportunites coukd/shoukd arise at the CCS

Chris,

Straight to the point Welsh League is a massive backwards step for any of our players.

As to Lennon Peake, 7 games , 4 goals and 3 assists and they want to send him out the Welsh League , a joke beyond.

For me this season and the season before last I see that Purse has not done a good job at all.

On Darren Purse, I also agree. Mixed results to say the least...

Because he is returning from serious injuries and needs to be built up in fitness, resilience and game-time...

That was supposed to occur until next season; but it appears Darren Purse isn't one to encourage talent.. :(
