Steve Morison is under serious consideration to re-take the reins as Cardiff City manager in a shock move by the club.

The Bluebirds parted ways with Morison back in September when the club were in 18th position in the Championship table, with Mark Hudson succeeding the former Millwall striker in the dugout. Sabri Lamouchi then took charge in February and eventually steered the club to safety.

Lamouchi, however, has been told he will not stay on as manager and it has left Cardiff looking for a new man to take charge ahead of the 2023/24 season.

And we are told that Morison, who has steadily moved up the bookmakers' odds list in recent days, is a real contender in what would be a first for Vincent Tan with regards to re-hiring a manager he has previously parted company with at Cardiff. It is understood Tan himself is veering towards the idea of re-appointing Morison.

Morison was brought to the club as under-21s manager and oversaw an 11-game winning start to the youth team's 2021/22 season. That run coincided with the sacking of Mick McCarthy and Morison subsequently took the reins and steadied the ship. Following some positive loan transfers in January last year, he guided Cardiff to Championship safety.

He brought through youth and was entrusted with rebuilding a squad from scratch on a minimal budget and brought in a decent core of Championship players, but ultimately the squad proved to be light on quality. He parted ways with the club just a fortnight after the summer transfer window ended.

At the time, Tan felt he had to relieve Morison of his duties or the club would go down. However, neither Hudson nor Lamouchi managed to push past the 18th position the club were left in when Morison departed.

Some believe he didn't get enough of an opportunity to mould the squad properly into a unit, given he had completely ripped up the style of play, too. Others believed he had run his race and it was the right time to let him go.

The potential appointment might alarm some Bluebirds supporters who could perceive it as a backwards step. The manager's straight-talking or perhaps abrasive style also drew criticism from both inside and outside the club, including his comments about youngsters Isaak Davies and Max Watters after certain games.

Whatever your view, it would take a pretty serious climbdown from Tan to reappoint a manager he got rid of just eight months ago. But we are told that Morison is interested in coming back and the club are interested in the prospect.

Good. Shouldn’t have been sacked in the first place and should’ve been provided a striker like Kaba and we’d have been more than fine.

Hudson period showed how far hiring a ‘nice guy’ gets you - absolutely gutless and dropped heads.

And to add. If he was initially sacked for falling out with higher ups as some have speculated, then them crawling back to him suggests that they might listen to some demands

I was dead against Morison sacking but will be amazed if he comes back.

Re: Updated: " Steve Morison "

Has Morison gone through the "interview process" or is Tan deliberately making Dalman look like a tw*t yet again?

Can definitely see this happening as if Tan is still paying Morison anyway it will literally cost him nothing to get a manager in. He can say to Morison that this is Morison's squad and as he gave him the window last summer to sign these players he'll expect Morison to keep Cardiff up next season.

Win win for Tan.

If he did it before he could do it again.

Certainly fits the current requirement for a City manager - inexperienced, cheap and not wanted by any other league club.

Well at least he's had a chance to look at his side from a distance. He must know now what's worked and what hasn't.

This will be the most astonishing decision I think I have ever seen at our club.
SM will be gone by the end of sept , shocking man management , Tan even stated in November how poorly he thought SM had performed.

Morison couldn’t get a striker in last time and played Watters / Harris so it gonna be different this time????
Didn’t like his sacking but also didn’t like the way he deflected everything onto to the players.
‘Cardiff City’ the stage show will be out soon the way we are descending into another mess

It might be my age/memory but I thought he left because he was a bully? Please correct me if I am wrong.

Didn't this happen previously where there was big rumours that Tan wanted to bring Neil Harris back after sacking him because he was already on the payroll. Madness.

C'mon surely its just an exercise to weed out the "leakers" it's citys version of wagatha cristy

Leak Bamba to one, then Morison to another whilst putting the T & C's on Nathan Jones deal

Morison winged it and was in the process of being found out

Hope that's true Jones I would be happy with .

I suppose the way we should look at the current overall picture, is which candidate would do the best job attracting free transfers and loan players to add to the current weak squad to face another relegation battle with very unhappy and discontent fans!
Cheers Vincent.
What a farce! :x
