Chairman Mehmet Daman gives update on new manager:

Fri May 19, 2023 12:34 pm

Ex Bluebird Sol Bamba and ex-Cardiff boss Steve Morison have each been heavily linked with the job in the last 72 hours, which saw their odds of landing the role slashed by the bookies.

Friday 19th May 2023

But the club are stressing no decisions have been taken and they are continuing to speak to unnamed candidates behind the scenes before deciding upon who can take the club forward next season following a tortuous 2022-23 campaign.

Cardiff chairman Mehmet Dalman was giving nothing away about who the new man would be, or who Cardiff were interviewing for the role.

But setting the record straight, Dalman said on Friday morning:

MEHMET DALMAN:

"We have not offered the job to anybody as of yet. The interview process is going on. No decision has been made."

Dalman's comments indicate that despite the publicity surrounding Bamba, Morison and others such as Nathan Jones, there would appear to be others in the frame who have yet to be mentioned.

The Cardiff City job is a big one, the opportunity to unlock a club with rich potential, and as such it is inevitable there is interest from managers home and abroad, Dalman says "nearly 50 managers have applied so it will take a while to interview them all."
Although many fans would like to see Bamba get the job, Cardiff have played down those reports and maintain the interview process is ongoing.

Former boss Morison emerged as a surprise contender, having pretty much compiled the current squad with a massive overhaul of 17 players last summer. Cardiff owner Tan has a soft spot for Morison and could be interested in re-hiring the man he dismissed out of the blue back in September.

Tan is known to want Morison as the next manager, but Dalman insists they have plenty to interview.

Cardiff know they need to get this call right, having escaped relegation from the Championship in recent weeks. The option of a rookie boss might appeal to Tan for cost reasons, but we're told he also remains keen for Cardiff to push much higher in the table next season. That might yet mean a different approach with regards the appointment, with Cardiff opting for greater experience in the role.

Cardiff are keen to make a decision one way or the other in the coming days, aware work needs to begin sharpish to bolster the squad during the summer transfer window with shrewd acquisitions.

Cardiff wrote in a statement: "Cardiff City Football Club can confirm that Sabri Lamouchi will depart at the conclusion of his current deal," they wrote in a statement.

"Sabri joined the Bluebirds at the end of January 2023, overseeing 18 fixtures, and winning six matches. Cardiff City would like to thank Sabri for his efforts and contribution in helping us secure our place in the Championship for 2023/24 and wish him all the very best for the future.

Cardiff chairman Mehmet Dalman, the club are hopeful that Lamouchi will stay on as manager next season.

"The next question is where we go from here. None of us want to go through a year like that again. It was frustrating, disappointing, extremely hard work - and I'm normally an optimist.”

"What we doing is talking to Sabri, ask how he sees things, listen to his feedback. He's greatly impressed us and I think he will stay. Put it this way, I've no reason to believe his thoughts on the future are any different to ours."

The search should have started 2 weeks ago if they new Sabri wasn’t going to get an extended contract with a manager in place by now

I have absolutely no faith whatsoever that the 3 muppets will get this appointment correct

Relegation next season is a virtual certainty with the idiots in charge making the decisions

Re: Chairman Mehmet Daman gives update on new manager:

If 50 managers have applied and we end up with an inexperienced Bamba/Morison then that speaks volumes about the decision making at the club.

We're not in a position to be pissing about and having people learn on the job.

GET IT RIGHT THIS TIME FFS!

If Tan wants Morisson, it'll be Morisson. Why waste the time and effort?

Absolute shambles.

If I remember correctly last time Lamouchi literally just came out of the blue so these odds aren't always what to go by.

Agree, Dalman can say what he wants but if Tan wants Morison then that's what will happen probably.

Don't forget Dalman said he expected Lamouchi to stay and Tan then let him go.

They have different ideas on how the club should be run in all aspects, not the managers position alone, but Tan can't get rid of Dalman. In my opinion, they're both as bad as each other.

Many times during this Hierarchy’s Reign they have said virtually every time 30plus managers have applied and yet we end up with inexperienced crap.

No point listening to the politician - he hasn't got a scooby what's going on like the rest of us.

Tan has already made him look like a tw*t over Lamouchi and no doubt he'll do it again.

Re: Chairman Mehmet Daman gives update on new manager:

Fri May 19, 2023 3:08 pm

It doesn't matter how many apply, it could be hundreds but once they find out what money is available & all the shit around the club they could change their mind or they might not even get interviewed, you, me or my cat could apply, doesn't mean anything, just another stick to beat the club with for some.

Re: Chairman Mehmet Daman gives update on new manager:

Fri May 19, 2023 3:18 pm

I would like to think most managers who have applied will have an idea of what they are coming into.
As shit as our season was on and off the field we still have potential and are probably a good opportunity in somes eyez

Maybe Wez. But I was told early in the week that the owner wanted Morison back. Did put a few hints on here that he was the name I've heard.

Glen Williams admittedly gets his info from here and whatever Dalman drip feeds him, but he's also put out the Morison story.

Rob Phillips (most reliable journalist when it comes to City in my opinion) also put it out that Tan is a fan of Morison.

So seem likely it's solid information.

To be honest Wez, do hope he's wrong. Because even though Morison makes sense in that he knows the players, there are issues that we all know about.

Like the fact him and Tan have already had a big argument and he was a bully.
