BBC saying Russell Martin is close to being named Southampton manager, despite no official approach being made to Swansea

Russell Martin uncertainty amid links to Leicester City and Southampton leaves Swansea City in agonising limbo
Fans, agents, and even staff on the ground appear unsure over Russell Martin's future - it's a situation that's not doing anyone any good as a huge summer awaits and answers are needed

It's been a simply tortuous week for Swansea City fans.

Members of the Jack Army should, as the rules of football fandom dictate, be taking delight at events unfolding in the capital and the state of play in Cardiff City's managerial search.

Instead, there's a sense of dread that's been steadily growing for the last few days.

It seems Swansea are flirting with a managerial saga of their own at the moment, with Russell Martin's future appearing increasingly uncertain. What's more, there's precious little to put their minds at ease right now.

Martin was due to meet the club's hierarchy, including new chairman Andy Coleman, in the United States this week to talk about his future and the way forward for the club. It's not entirely clear as of yet whether those conversations have actually happened, and there's no real sign of an imminent extension to his current deal.

The 37-year-old is entering the final year of his contract this summer, and proposed discussions with the club's top brass have been at the eye of a storm of speculation.

Links with a move to newly-relegated Southampton have gathered an uncomfortable amount of momentum in the last few days, and Martin appears to be a leading contender to take the reins at the club being relegated from the Premier League.

I heard his agent is putting him forward for nearly every job going. He doesn't want to stay with the Jacks.

Strongly linked with Southampton.

Another Swansea manager that people want to poach. Who was the last manager we had that anyone wanted to take off our hands?

This really does annoy me. How the hell are they employing a long line of managers who succeed constantly.

How can they get it so right and we get it so wrong. I may be wrong but it seems like they have a line of managers that go on to better things. I cannot even remember when that happened to us.

To be honest the Jack's model started by Martinez makes any of their managers look better than what they are.

All these so called good managers they've had in my view have basically stole the Jack's structure and taken it into their next job at bigger clubs and everyone thinks they're brilliant.

As long as the man coming in doesn't mess around with the structure they built it's an easy gig just finding the right players to go into their system.

This is why the sell players on for alot more than their actual worth. Prime example was McBurnie for 20 million! That's 30 million too much for that absolute helmet.

We started to lay the foundations under Morison and we were I feel a striker away from being a really good side. It would have been interesting to see Kaba in Morison's team. I personally think we were nearly there.

As usual in football everyone wants success immediately. These things take time and if we want to progress we have to stick to a structure whether it being passing out from the back or Warnockball and getting the right players to fit into it.

Under Lamouchi I didn't know what we were to be honest at least under Morison we had an identity of how we wanted to play.

What's he achieved to warrant a job with either of those clubs? Couldn't buy a win mid season. The form at the end if season kept in a job. Very over rated at the moment. However, you have to credit the Jack's for having an identity and matching managers to that. The complete opposite to our merry go round.

Re: RUSSELL MARTIN NEXT?

The jacks recent moneyball has been brilliant but everyone has caught up.

Where we and nearly everyone else were going for the 6-foot athletes in the midfield they were 100% committed to a passing style and got coaches and managers to acquire players cast off as too small or unathletic.

Morisons rolling the ball out without any intention of scoring was the saddest parody of the Jacks and their greatest achievement to date, making us copy them so badly it was painful.

Sawyers could fit into their team but they chose not the sign a 31 year old on the downgrade with no sell-on value.

My Jack mates hated him most of the season until they done us again and went on the run.

Southampton would be a good fit for him

Brilliant! You dangle a carrot and the donkey will bite it...!

Well done for being the first, Gunny; it just goes to show you deserve the coveted title of 'Jack Lurkio'

Russell Martin has been primed to leave for some time and your support (tentatively assuming you are a proper 'Jack') were not so long ago adamant they wanted him out. But now it's on his terms and like Cooperman, he's about to deliver you a massive "F#@$ off!" tablet...

Get your own library in order before you come on here...! :occasion5:

Succeed when it comes to their personal management career, not as much at Swansea.

He is wanted elsewhere, I see that as succeeding.

If they continue the form of the last 15 games into next season they’ll go up.

In fairness, I am going off unreliable Twitter accounts so you have a point.

I do actually believe he's wanted by other clubs. Since the derby, went on a good run of form and had an outside chance of the play-offs towards the end of the season.

Personally don’t give a stuff whether he leaves Swansea or not but if he does, their choice of applicant is likely to be a lot more appealing than ours.

Russell Martin: Swansea City boss set to be next Southampton manager
By Ian Mitchelmore and Gareth Vincent
BBC Sport Wales

Swansea City head coach Russell Martin is close to being named Southampton manager.

Southampton are yet to make an official approach to Swansea for permission to speak to Martin.

Saints are confident the 37-year-old will be their new boss as they rebuild following Premier League relegation.

Martin has only a year to run on his Swansea contract and has not travelled to the US for scheduled talks with Swansea's American ownership group.

He has repeatedly said he would be interested in extending his stay in Wales, but no new deal has materialised.

Martin had been set to cross the Atlantic this week for talks over future plans, but the trip was cancelled with the former Scotland defender now the leading contender to be named as Ruben Selles' successor.

Former Norwich City captain Martin signed a three-year contract when he left MK Dons to succeed Steve Cooper at Swansea in August 2021.

He led Swansea to 15th in his first season as a Championship boss, and 10th in 2022-23 - an undulating campaign which ended with a rousing nine-game unbeaten run.

Martin's Swansea played the sort of possession football which has been the club's trademark for much of the last 15 years, with his commitment to that style believed to appeal to Southampton's hierarchy.

Having been relegated from the top flight, the Saints are aiming to appoint a new boss swiftly following the conclusion of the 2022-23 season.

all my mates are jacks, and they are happy he's leaving. most wanted him gone before they played us, because they said and i quote "we'll beat you lot with no problems, and it will buy him time and keep him in the job" the big issue they seem have is that Piore is heading into his final year of his contract and the club could look to offload him this summer to maximise their sales. and with i think 3 key players all out of contract and leaving

Yup, the only thing that counts down there is their two-game season...! ;)

Even Rangers and Celtic get four...!

Wonder if they'll spray graffiti over Martins house like they did to other managers that left?
Martinez for example, Judas? After what he did for them.
Bin dipping rats.
