One of the boys mothers pleaded with everybody on facebook to allow the paramedics in and out so she could go see her son in the hospital

South Wales Police is investigating a serious road traffic collision and scenes of violent disorder which happened in the Ely area of Cardiff last night (Monday, May 22).

Shortly after 6pm yesterday we received a report of a serious road traffic collision on Snowden Road which resulted in the deaths of two teenage boys.

Police responded to this collision which had already occurred when officers arrived, and they remained on scene to manage a large-scale disorder until the early hours of this morning.

Specially-trained public order officers were also deployed, including officers from neighbouring police forces.

Several vehicles were set alight, property was damaged and police officers were injured during the incident.

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Travis said:

“First and foremost our thoughts are with families of the two boys who have died following the collision in Ely and with those affected by the disorder which followed.
“These are scenes we do not expect to see in our communities, particularly a close-knit community such as Ely. We received a large number of calls from residents who were understandably frightened by the actions of this large group who were intent on causing crime and disorder.
“The level of violence towards emergency services and the damage to property and vehicles was totally unacceptable.
“Our focus now is to fully investigate the circumstances of the collision and the appalling scenes that followed.
“Arrests have already been made in connection with the disorder and more will follow. We shall be maintaining an enhanced police presence throughout the week and into the weekend.
“We would like to thank the public for their support and appeal to anyone with information or video footage to come forward and provide that to us.”

Anyone with information about the collision or the disorder is asked to contact us quoting 2200166555.

I bet this scum would be straight on the phone to the police if it was one of their family involved in an accident. Wouldn't be throwing missiles then would they. They have absolutely no respect for other people's property, just an excuse for violence.

One was quoted as saying how great it is the community came together.
Then they set people's cars on fire, one a disabled lady

15 and 16 year old boys both died, riding an electric bike, there’s video on Wales Online of a local police van following them seconds before the crash….

Kind of contradicts the police saying they arrived after receiving calls of an accident!!

Hope you're feeling a little embarrassed now from your rural high-horse... ?

A foolish act but neither kid deserved to die for riding that scooter and there's more to come about the events of the evening in which good people I know were caught up on both sides...

It's not personal. I just think it's best you hadn't commented from so far away without real knowledge. As I said, there's a lot more to come out...

Post on Wales Updates Facebook page

Two local teenagers, Kyrees Sullivan (16) and Harvey Evans (15), tragically lost their lives in a fatal electric bike crash in #Ely, sparking public outrage and riots.

Following rumours of a police chase leading up to the accident, local residents, including Bridy Bool, have demanded further information.

Bridy Bool, who lives nearby, said she knew the family of Harvey Evans and his mother wanted to know which hospital her son had been taken to. She added: “The police are not telling her where her boy is – she has been waiting all night and morning.

“They are not telling them – they are waiting for the family liaison officer. It was 2.40am when her boy’s body got moved from there. I’ve just left her house now.

“There’s no support. They are on the phone but there is no support on the ground – all this is going on and they are nowhere.”

Paying tribute to the teenager, Ms. Bool said: "Harvey was such a young boy, a sociable boy, he had loads of friends and he loved motorbikes and football. He was best friends with Kyrees and were into the same things. It was not unusual for them to be together."

Ms. Bool also claimed the crash occurred during a police chase: "I know they were being chased by the police as there are videos going around that the police were chasing them... They didn't have helmets on and there was no reason for them to be chased. Harvey had just eaten his tea and had left his mum’s. He had been at home all day with his mum, and he went with his friend, and this happened."

South Wales Police have confirmed the crash occurred before their arrival, contrary to circulating rumours: "Police responded to this collision, which had already occurred when officers arrived."

The situation has led to significant unrest, with a number of arrests made and property damage reported.

You're not the only one who talks to people, have family from Ely and/or know others who were part of the teams that dealt with the aftermath

Beyond that, I simply refer to my opening comment that you were better saying nothing until the facts were out; and they are still changing by the hour...

In the meantime, I simply send condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones...

Just watching GB news ,the reporter is stood where the kids died ,and in the background a kid on electric scooter flying up and down the road and another on an electric bike do wheelie at speed ,no helmets on , disrespectful and disgraceful after what's happened, hasn't anyone told them doing that looks bad
