RUSS HOUR Russell Martin agrees to become new Southampton manager on three-year deal after Ruben Selles exit
By Jack Rosser - The Sun
RUSSELL MARTIN has agreed a three-year deal to become Southampton's new manager.
The Saints are set to announce the 37-year-old in the coming days following their confirmation that current boss Ruben Selles will leave after Sunday's game against Liverpool.
It is not clear whether Martin will be in attendance at St Mary's for Southampton's final Premier League game as he prepares to take them in the Championship next season.
Martin had already verbally agreed to take the role earlier this week, leaving Southampton to agree a £400,000 compensation package with Swansea.
The Saints are expected to have to pay further compensation to bring Martin's coaching staff to the south coast.
A Southampton official said, "Ruben will take charge of the team for the final game against Liverpool on Sunday at St Mary's. We wish him all the best for his future career."

It sounds like it will cost Southampton £500k to get Russell Martin, which is reportedly 80% less than what it cost them to buy out Nathan Jones, who was seemingly on a £1.2m salary there, probably about 90% more than Cardiff have become accustomed to paying for their managers

Nathan Jones needs us to rebuild his career, he can forget wages like that now he failed miserably, and we need him, get it done Tan!
I don't get why Southampton wants Martin, but I suppose he must have something that I can't see?

I can't see it either and you'd think they would be a bit fussy before bringing in another championship manager. ????

The players who could now follow Southampton-bound Russell Martin out of the Swansea City exit door
Swansea finished 10th, just 3pts off the play-offs.
After making such encouraging progress last season, Swansea City are facing up to a summer of significant upheaval.
At the time of writing, boss Russell Martin is closing in on a move to newly-relegated Southampton, who are set for some serious changes themselves as they bid to earn back their top-flight status at the first time of asking.
The move is expected to be completed in the coming days once all the various formalities are done and dusted, and attention will soon turn to who replaces Martin in the Swans hot-seat.
However, it seems likely the manager is not the only one who could be heading out the door this summer, with questions now growing over several players in this current squad.
While not entirely ruling out the possibility of keeping at least one of them, the club seem close to admitting defeat in their bids to keep out-of-contract trio Ryan Manning, Kyle Naughton and Joel Latibeaudiere at the club.

And I wouldn't be surprised if they get a new manager in before us.
And probably a better manager too.

Swansea City are understood to still be working on a move to bring Luton Town's Chief Operating Officer Paul Watson on board as a sporting director, although that move has seemingly been delayed due to the Hatters' participation in the Championship play-off final this weekend.
Swansea want to follow on how Luton Town have set up their structure and believe Paul Watson can do this for them.
Julian Winter has left his position as chief executive at Swansea City.
Winter spent nearly three years at the Swans, and his departure comes as part of an ongoing shake-up of the club's hierarchy.
