Assistant manager Sol Bamba told The Athletic:

Tue May 23, 2023 3:29 pm

Assistant manager Sol Bamba told The Athletic about the powers of Neil Warnock's man management.

This, in a nutshell, sums up the man...

"He had an office at Cardiff which looked out over the car park at the training ground,” Bamba said of Warnock. “I drove in one morning, got out of the car, and he appeared from nowhere.

“He said to me, ‘Sol, go home. Take two or three days off. I’ll see you Friday’. So, I want to know why. We’ve got a game coming up, I want to train. But no, he tells me to go away.

“I take the missus away to France for a few days and then I come back in on Friday – he puts the team up and I’m in the starting line-up. It’s all really strange. I don’t get it.

“I try to get into his office to ask what’s going on but he won’t have it — ‘I’m not talking to you, we’ve got to focus on the game’, things like that. I play the next day, I have a great performance. Man of the match. Afterwards, he says to me, ‘Normally when you get here in the morning, you’re laughing, you’re smiling, you’re getting all the lads going, but when you got out of the car this time, you didn’t look the same’.

“Basically, he didn’t think I was myself. He thought there might be something up, so his attitude was for me to get away from there, refresh and then I’ll run through a brick wall for him. Which I did.

“He’s so clever like that. He sees everything, because he makes it his job to get to know every player. Just a quick look at me in the morning made him think he had to do something, even though I didn’t realise it.

“I’m biased but I love the man.”

Bring Warnock back, mentor Sol at least a season, get Sol ready for a long term contract at Cardiff.

Don't know how many more times it needs to be said but Warnock has made it clear he'll do the last few months of a season with a club but not an entire season. Not going to happen.

He told Huddersfield he won't stay on.

Could be interesting as a 'mentor' for Sol, Ned. That way, he wouldn't need to be around 24/7 :ayatollah:

Agree with that.

But would like to see Sol manage the U23s for a bit before stepping up. That experience would help.

Still don't know if he'll go wherever Lamouchi goes next, because he does have loyalty to him also.

Agree on that too, Ned

It seems academic as the theme appears to be an overseas manager/coach being the preference. I can see the sense in that, as there have been some very successful ones but we always need to remember 'this is Cardiff City!' :laughing6:

One of the stories I'm hearing from within is that the training regime across all the club's groups has been pretty lapse since Neil Warnock left. Too many managers in such a short time (inc. Sabri Lamouchi) has apparently seen a drop in structure, which has had a knock on effect

Not sure how right that is but the next guy needs to be given time to introduce a new style and new culture or we'll just see a repeat of the last two years and the problem with that is we have no more Championship spaces below us to drop into now...

Spot on Chris.

We all know Warnock was special, but since then things haven't gone well at all levels of the club.

Like you say, whoever the new man is they need to be given time. I envisage another tough season but, whatever happens, give them the whole campaign.

The one thing we need above all is stability.

Warnock was fantastic with the first team but I don’t know how much interest he showed in the development underneath.
If anyone can shed light on this great as I don’t know.
