Sheffield Wednesday fancy move for 22-year-old Championship man after sealing promotion, says journalist.
Cardiff City certainly look to have a lot on their plate right now. They’ve been struggling for a number of years and it looks like this summer could be a very testing one for them, with no manager and a seemingly no funds to go about a summer overhaul.
But selling McGuinness and maybe a few others could give them some much-needed resources. He’s a top player and letting him go isn’t ideal, but it might be necessary for them to bring in some more players this summer.
And one player who played an important role for the Owls in the first half of the season was Mark McGuinness. The centre-back joined on loan from Cardiff City and featured 17 times in League One before returning to Cardiff, but journalist Darren Witcoop says that Sheffield Wednesday will target a summer move for the 22-year-old after securing promotion back to the Championship.
Wednesday are known to be interested in McGuiness and he was a fans favourite and with the Welsh Club in total disarray, they could be open to offers.
And for Wednesday it’d obviously be a very exciting signing, with plenty of additions needed for them to ensure they can compete in the second tier next time round.
Cardiff would not receive the full transfer fee as Arsenal would receive a percentage.

Cardiff have an asset.
It’s a feel good story about a young giant CB who plays for the bluebirds next season

Let Wednesday have Jack Simpson instead.

Seven figure sum and we'll probably let him go, despite the fact we won't be able to replace him with someone anywhere near as good probably.
With the fact Kipre has gone, McGuiness is the sort of player we should be looking to keep unless Wednesday offer a ridiculously high fee.

Seven figure sum but Arsenal take a cut.

For me he’s an ok championship player but very capable of dropping major bollocks in games.
The main reason we need to keep is because we are low on numbers with the transfer ban.

He is still a "prospect" to me. He is OK for his age and development, but that is all.
He needs an experienced centre half with him and i think he is far too inexperienced to be the outside of a back three. A tight back four with Flinty next to him was probably perfect for him, just do what Flinty said, far too much space in a back three
He came back and started like a house on fire, but the lapses started to creep back into his game as the season continued.
NG and McGuiness with Simpson as the back is a recipe for double relegation
I'd keep him but he'll need a championship contract, if he wants too much then let him go for a million, he can't be let go for free next year
