Lyle Taylor

Sun Jun 04, 2023 4:34 pm

He had a medical last week but not sure the new boss will want him ? .

Re: Lyle Taylor

Sun Jun 04, 2023 4:46 pm

Dalman said the signing was somebody that wasn't dependent on the new manager.

I guess they told Bulut he was signed when they offered him the job so shouldn't be an issue.

Not a bad signing if true in my view, he has experience at this level.

Re: Lyle Taylor

Looks a case of getting through next season, barely one for the future but a handful at our level. At least O'Dowda will have someone to aim at.

Re: Lyle Taylor

Sun Jun 04, 2023 4:55 pm

I mean, I knew that it wouldn't be Kaba but deep down I really wanted it to be him

Still not a bad signing if it still goes ahead!

Re: Lyle Taylor

He’s 33 and has had one decent half season in the Championship in his whole career.

Not looking good if he’s the type of player that the board are going to be forcing on the manager.

Re: Lyle Taylor

Didn't he used to sell bags of sugar?

Re: Lyle Taylor

Would be an OK signing but hopefully not the signing dalman is talking about

Totally agree

Re: Lyle Taylor

Better than Harris and wickham Annis. Not many strikers will be attracted to us unless from overseas. Remember he was loaned to Birmingham cos he couldn’t break into a forest side with better forwards understandably. Went to Birmingham and scored 5 in 14 average 1 in 3 which is still better than our current forwards combined . Harris, Watters and Wickham. Hopefully the club will bring in a few decent freebies from overseas . If one is what wales online are saying which I don’t believe a word they say until it’s announced that will excite our fans , Lyle Taylor can’t be the one to excite us as the signing close

What are you actually expecting us to sign when we're in the position we are? Honestly?

I often criticise the board but it does seem you're criticising them for the sake of criticising them.

Same goes for a few who it looks like have already written off the manager before he's even started.

I will support the manager and every player.

Re: Lyle Taylor

Totally agree with you . Lyle is a million times better than what we have got . He will improve our squad at the top end . We will have to make do with what we can get. Support the manager and support the players we currently have and also bring in

Re: Lyle Taylor

Would be a good signing if a manager could get the best out of him

I’m not one for criticising the board for the sake of it, post history will show that I’ve stood up for Tan, Choo etc in the face of unfair criticism and have had back-and-forths with people, been called a Tan lover etc over it.

Anyway back to Taylor, he’s 33 and didn’t play a single minute of senior football last season.

His numbers in the Championship are: 22 games 11 goals, 39 games 4 goals, 18 games 3 goals, 14 games 5 goals. The rest of his career has been lower league.

I don’t see how signing a 33 year old striker who hasn’t played for a year who has never really set the Championship alight is the type of signing you want your chairman forcing upon a new manager. You’d usually expect a player with pedigree in this instance ie a continental striker or when we got Wilson in on loan, not a journeyman lower league striker.

note if it was the managers signing I’d back it but dalman has made it clear it’s his own signing

Re: Lyle Taylor

Mixed opinion here for me. 12-12 months ago I'd be excited, but he's sat on a bench for a season.

He's always been a nuisance up top and has that spite about him we are desperate for, but you won't see anyone with top half ambitions queuing up for him.

Does he improve what we currently have - yes, but that's not really an achievement.

Would he be an exciting singing - not for me, really.

All I remember of Lyle Taylor was the different coloured hair styles he sported for charity .

Fair points. Was probably a bit harsh with what I said, but just been getting a bit sick of people being negative before pre season has even started!

There are issues with Taylor but with the right management, think he can do a decent job for us.

The board will be picking the team soon I'm sure. Just a manger to face the music all we have had really. Why would they be signing a player or players without the managers say but blame the same person when things don't go right from the players they signed. Baffles me.

Re: Lyle Taylor

never heard of him! :laughing6:

does he do painting and decorating, or run a burger stall?

Re: Lyle Taylor

33

He had one good season with Charlton and didn't get a look at Notts forest or Brum

Be interesting to see when he last played lol

The start of another s***show. We've had loads of injury prone crocs that have frustrated us all in the last few years, Murphy,Tomlin and Vassell being three good examples. The first two could have been two City all time greats with the talent they had but ultimately all were injury prone and here we go with another. Of course we might get lucky and he might get 30 goals looking at previous experiences he's more likely to get injured a steal a w age like the others did. Just because he's cheap as per usual is no way to full up squad places. Let's have fit playe rs and don't shoot me down by saying like the totally useless but consistently fit Harris!

Where are you getting this "injury prone" idea from. Here's his recent record:

2015
→ Partick Thistle (loan)
15
(3)
2015–2018
AFC Wimbledon
131
(44)
2018–2020
Charlton Athletic
63
(32)
2020–2023
Nottingham Forest
57
(7)
2022
→ Birmingham City (loan)
14
(5)

When he's come to us in recent years, he's been a right handful.

Don't get me wrong, if we had money to spend, I wouldn't bother, but he's about right for the limited aisle we're shopping in!

Re: Lyle Taylor

Mon Jun 05, 2023 7:32 pm

Go look at his stats again never ever played for a full season anywhere unless he was dropped because of his form . Better than what we've got Harris, Wickham (same issue consistently injured) but it comes to something when the board not the manager are signing players. Remember folks, this is Cardiff City!

Re: Lyle Taylor

Mon Jun 05, 2023 7:39 pm

Form, maybe. Injury prone, I'm not so sure.

As you seem to know what's going on, do you know contract details?
He may well be on pay as you play.
