Cardiff flop Niels Nkounkou turned his form on its head at the back end of last season and as a result has signed a permanent deal with St Etienne.

Nkounkou was signed by Steve Morison one of his 17 players on the back of Jamilu Collins' season-ending injury, however his form was patchy at best - showing great endeavour going forward but struggling hugely when it came to defending.

But after being recalled by Everton in January, he was sent out to St Etienne and his form skyrocketed. He claimed six goals and eight assists in 19 games for the French club and was called up to France's under-21s squad.

He said last month: "I would like to fix myself in a project, not to find myself in uncertainty every summer, without knowing where I will do the season.

"I would like to find stability somewhere. In recent years, I’ve moved a lot, I’ve scattered a bit, and now I want to settle down.

"When you know that at the end of the season, you will surely no longer be there, that you will return to a club where you do not know if you will be able to stay even if you fight, it makes you think. It’s not always easy to live with, whether for me or for my loved ones, who follow me every time."

He has signed a three-year deal with the Ligue 2 club.

I've never seen a defender stood up so much as him before. For all his talents going forward the guy just couldn't defend.Nice lad though and I wish him well.

Sounds to me like he was playing more of a left sided midfielder than a full back. Something that 95% on here were advocating our management to do, but what do we know.

It was obvious from the first game he needed to be played as a winger.
And we was crying out for a winger. Crazy.
