There was a complication prior to Steve Morison being appointed Hornchurch FC boss - he was in 'active conversations to go back' to Cardiff, according to their chairman.
Steve Morison named manager of Isthmian League side Hornchurch FC just weeks after being strongly linked with Cardiff City job
The former Bluebirds boss was among the early contenders to succeed Sabri Lamouchi, but instead will be preparing for matches against Dulwich Hamlet and Hashtag United after Vincent Tan was persuaded to change his mind by Mehmet Dalman.

Former Cardiff City boss Steve Morison has been named the new manager of non-league side Hornchurch FC, just weeks after being strongly linked with a return to the Bluebirds.
Morison was believed to be considered by Vincent Tan for the Cardiff job just eight months after being sacked by the Bluebirds. Instead the club opted for the much bolder move of appointing former Fenerbahce man Erol Bulut, which has enthused the fan base again.
Morison, meanwhile, is now set to get to work in the Isthmian Premier League, the seventh tier of English football, where he will taking on the likes of Billericay Town, Dulwich Hamlet, and Hashtag United.
Hornchurch finished second in the league last year, four points behind champions Bishop's Stortford, who subsequently won promotion to the National League North.
Going one better this season will undoubtedly be part of Morison's brief.
Of Hornchurch!!
Wow that low

Hornchurch FC are delighted to announce the signing of Steve Morison as our next Manager. He will immediately take control of all 1st team matters.
Chairman Alex Sharp commented:
“from the first time I spoke with Steve I knew we had found our next Manager. I was drawn in by the Millwall connection, but then so impressed by his experience, professionalism and how driven he is. I have loved listening to his plans of how he intends to take the club forward and I love the fact that he thinks nothing of dropping down to non-league to create opportunities going forward. Everyone I’ve spoken to in the game from Rob Lee, to Shaun Derry, speaks highly of Steve and I really can’t wait to get going. Steve brings with him Anthony Fenton as his assistant, who is also very well thought of in football and I’m excited at the thought of the players that Steve and Anthony will have access to and can bring to Hornchurch FC.

And to think we were so close to Tan bringing Morison back.
Where do all Tans managers end up.
This is the type of calibre manager Tan has been having at our Championship Club
It was so close to Morison coming back, all because he is so cheap and gets cheap lower standard players
Hornchurch Manager Steve Morison commented
“I am thrilled and honoured to announce that I have taken on the role of First Team Manager of Hornchurch FC. Myself and Anthony Fenton are excited to take on this new challenge and to lead the team to new heights both on and off the football pitch.
As we embark on this new season, I want to assure you that I am committed to bringing success to Hornchurch FC. I will work tirelessly with our players, coaching staff and management to ensure that we perform at our best and achieve our goals.
“I am passionate about football and believe that together, we can build a strong and successful team. I am excited to work with the existing players and the wider Hornchurch FC community to create a culture of excellence both on and off the pitch.
“I would like to thank Alex, Colin and the Board for giving me this opportunity and I look forward to meeting each and every one of you as we embark on this exciting new journey together.
Come on you Urchins!”

That's the standard of manager tan gives jobs to. Couldn't make it up

Here is a copy of the English Pyramid System
The Championship is, of course, the 2nd tier
The Ishmian Premier League is located in the 7th tier.

It’s unbelievable, but Wez still backs him.
Tan would if taken us down this season if he had had his usual way.

That is Morison’s level

This just shows how batshit crazy Morisons appointment was.
I was not against Morison per se, I was against giving the job to a total rookie in the world's 7th or 8th biggest league.
At least Harris had a promotion from L1 on his CV...
This is an appropriate level, let's see how he does.

I dare say it is but he is now on a "hiding to nothing".
Last season Hornchurch finished 2nd in their league and scored 98 goals (only champions get promoted)
If he finishes lower down than last year's manager that will be embarrassing!!!

I totally agree

I expected him to have to drop down because I know League One and League Two teams weren't even considering him but didn't think he'd have to drop that far down!
Other clubs in the EFL wouldn't go anywhere near him because they knew he had a bad attitude and was a bully to the young players.
Like said above, his wage demands aren't obviously that high.
This proves really that he was nowhere near qualified to manage in the Championship.
Thankfully after Dalman talked Tan out of it, he didn't come back to us.
If it doesn't work out there for him, that's his managerial career well and truly over.
Him, Hudson and Bamba (who was also linked with our job) were never qualified enough to be successful managers in the Championship.

I always back our new managers, but it just shows how little Tan knows about football or our managers.

This really goes to show the level of incompetency shown by us, a Championship club, and also shown by Vincent Tan.
It proves, if it ever needed proving, that Tan will always go for the cheapest option. Quality means nothing to him in terms of Cardiff City.
This should be a HUGE wake up call. Dalman seems to have taken more of a front row seat, but Tans idiocy around litigation has held the club up for the last five years or so.
Tan is still here, and wont change. Lets see if Dalman gets any influence... if not be prepared for more managers/players of Isthmian League standard.
Now, Bulut, I hope is different. It is said Tan has pushed the boat out, and I wish him the best at our club. But what is pushing the boat out? A few yards, and still clinging to the sides is one thing. Tan needs to release his grip, then see what we can do.

He will be on peanuts there.
I know his wage was very very low at Cardiff.

Harsh rehashing of history on here.
I don’t really care if he was harsh on youngsters, they’ve all regressed since he’s left, so he was clearly doing something right.
He kept us up after a disastrous start to the season playing youngsters who people have since written off as crap. Well those players either aren’t crap or he did a great job.
Season just gone had us playing pretty football, at points tearing teams apart. Okay it wasn’t particularly consistent but that’s to be expected after completely overhauling the squad and not being given the time for them to gel. He was clearly a striker away, and just as he gets Callum Robinson he gets sacked two games later!
I can’t believe that he’s had to drop so far and wonder if it’s to do with references or something because surely a football league club would take a chance on him given his job in keeping us up.

Totally agree with you , done a great job of the under 21s and didn’t get a chance to prove himself with a striker . But there we go that’s nutty tan for you .
I wish him luck
Thu Jun 08, 2023 10:15 pm
Good luck to him.
Wanted to be pep here but never worked out .Struggled for a plan B and just didn't have the players to play possession football playing out from the back .
You need to be organised to play that system and we just gave the ball away to much .
Was never giving a fair crack at it though good luck to him though always liked him as a player a nightmare to play against.

Good luck to him.
Best u21 manager we had for a while and I enjoyed what tried to do and on gnats cock of a budget in the first team.

Really harsh on Morison all this criticism…ok his attitude and arrogance was at times really poor and eventually got him the sack
However, let’s not forget he kept us up, completely revamped the team on a shoestring and probably halved our wage bill
His loan signing’s were absolutely spot on and I defy anyone to get 7 better loan signings at our level than…Dramah, Doughty, Uchi, Hugill, Doyle, Philegene and Kipre nobody could have done better than that!!!
Good luck to the guy might be a better manager than people on here think !!
