Cardiff City-linked striker Ruben Rodrigues has joined Oxford United after leaving Notts County.

Cardiff, Oxford, Derby County, Portsmouth and Barnsley were all credited with an interest in Rodrigues, 26, after he contributed to 34 goals for the Magpies as they achieved promotion into League Two.

Rodrigues scored 19 goals and provided 15 assists for the Meadow Lane outfit, and he has scored 35 league goals across two seasons for County, prompting glances from teams higher up in the football pyramid.

While it was understood the forward was someone Cardiff were aware of and they had been to watch him play, he was not described as an active target this summer. Oxford, however, were far more serious and the League One side have nabbed their man.

“It’s an exciting move for me," Rodrigues said. "I loved my time at Notts County, and last season was amazing, but this is a chance to test myself at a higher level. The way that the coach wants to play is similar to the way I like to play. The training facilities are great, the club has big ambitions, and I can’t wait to get started.”
