I was hoping that this would mean a route into Europe, can you imagine
Oh well, we could dream!
Apparently the winner does not get into Europe but are entered into the Scottish Challenge Cup

We can only dream, there is more chance of us joining the Welsh League the way we are heading under the Cardiff City Committee.

Even if the winners DID get a European place, we wouldn't.
"Cake and eat it" scenario.

Exactly.
Have you seen some of the shall we say villages / towns that we may play?
How does this help our players compete against good competition in the future?

I’ve just been told apparently after this coming season, the club are getting even closer ties with us entering the Welsh Cup with our first team, But still NO Europe.

already a hectic schedule, made even more hectic with this cup, we will be expecting to win it, but either way, i'll enjoy a few trips to random places, and a few midweek night games for £5er.

And imagine losing three games to them in one season, the treble.

Couple of quid for one of the small clubs in there if they get the plum draw of us or JBs.

Imagine being the first to win the treble.

We'll obviously use it for fringe players and players from the development squad to play, as well as match practice for those coming back from injury.
I don't really see the issue with us using this competition for that.
Erol Bulut is obviously not going to see it an important competition.
He will still focus on the league, FA Cup and EFL Cup.
The first team squad, excluding those that I mentioned such as players who aren't playing and those coming back from injury, will have zero involvement in this competition.

100%
Fringe and youth players should mostly be playing. Keeping them sharp and providing additional experience.

Can't see the point in this - apart from giving the U21's : players coming back to fitness and anyone else who is not getting game time ...a kick about

Tony,
We have the U21 games v Championship, league 1 & 2 already and we struggle big time.
Perhaps they want us to look good when we beat these village sides.

Turn up, pay the opposition respect, put 7 on them (Rubin Colwill 6 + 1 assist), win the cup, open tour bus. Tidy.

Whilst I agree, on the whole, that these games are pretty pointless German sides often play amateur sides in pre-season and you will regularly see 10-0 or more wins.
The issue is that a win against these sides shouldn't even be considered a win unless we win by five goals. Its all in the mentality. The games should be used for both fitness and to get into the habit of putting the ball in the net.
The mentality needs to be right when approaching these type of games. We need to take the "no mercy" approach and stop being soft touches in these types of games.

Ok for the youngsters and when I say youngsters I don't mean 22 and 23 year olds like the clowns in the media keep saying as younsters. I'm talking of 19 and under will be playing and the stand sitters from the under 21s or 1st team. That's my guess.
Ian,
I think it will be better if we put out our U16’s.

Cardiff City’s opponents in this New Welsh Competition
They are asking again.
Perhaps we can loan them players as well.

Unless Cardiff have a long term plan that they think over time this may give them a chance of getting a European place by entering the other Welsh cups I can see no benefit whatsoever
One of the teams in our section is my local team and I think from my user name you can work it out The standard at best is just about a very good parks team level. My son has played for them and compared to another one of my sons who was in Cardiff City academy the levels are so vastly different.
All we will see is our youngsters playing against guys who will be out to bully them o. the pitch but will not match them for football ability.
Some will say the toughening up of the lads getting kicked etc will be good learning g curve thou

Honestly it shows that The Board / Gavin Chesterfield / Darren Purse have NO intentions of our players playing higher standard football , we are going backwards season after season, i still fear for us big time.
Thu Jun 29, 2023 12:12 pm
to be fair, in the premier league i think certain academies qualify to allow their under 23's or 18s (cant remember which) can enter and play the Johnsons Paint Trophy or whatever it is called now. we probably have decided to put ours in the welsh cup just to toughen them up, boys vs men sort of thing. it will also be good for some of our returning from injury players during the season, as i think we can only play 2 or 3 over 21 year olds i believe
Thu Jun 29, 2023 3:38 pm
Age restricted football holds back our players. After U-18's it should be men's first football at whatever level you can regularly play
Man city's u21 don't get that far in the johnson paints as a mens L2 outfit are too physical for them. The kids need to play against men who mean it. Too many U21 & U23 games are 60% intensity glorified exhibition games based on technique and structures.
Colwill needs to learn he needs to do things quicker, a spell as an 17/18 year old against semi pro's would give him that urgency otherwise he gets hurt. Too much pussy footing around nowadays.
youth- reserves - first team worked fine at our level.
The big boys are protecting their assets, so bury them in cotton wool and loan for a fee with the view to selling on, so the U21/U23 circuit is great for them.
I would love to see a Cardiff city side in the Cymru premier league. Call them Dinas Caerdydd, allow us and the jacks permission to loan them 18 players for the season and see if they are good enough for the next stage of their career. This would be aimed for 16~19 year olds.
