CARDIFF CITY v PENYBONT FC
Saturday 1st July, 3pm
Pre-Season Friendly
Cardiff City Stadium

Strong lineup

That's a strong starting lineup from Bulut.

Interestingly, Joel Bagan, who has been offered a new deal by the club, is named in the first-half XI, while there is place in the squad for Ryan Allsopp, who picked up a knock in training, nor Jamilu Collins who is still on return to football protocols after his ACL injury.

Both absent players, the club say, will be returning soon.

Cardiff City kick off their pre-season games on Saturday with a home game against Penybont FC.

Below are a few details on our opponents.

Penybont are a team in the JD Cymru Premier, and finished 3rd last season. Later in July they will be in the two-legged Europa League first qualifying round against FC Santa Coloma of Andorra.

The current club was only formed in 2013, as a merger between Bridgend Town and Bryntirion Athletic.

They were promoted to the JD Cymru Premier in 2019.

Penybont play their home games at the 1,200 capacity SDM Glass Stadium.

Their current manager is Rhys Griffiths who played for a number of Welsh Premier clubs as well as Newport County and Plymouth Argyle.

1-0 McGuiness - Great header from a corner.

Last season we couldn't score from a corner - so a good start!

Cardiff peppering Penybont

There's another Cardiff corner, and another, and ANOTHER.

Bluebirds looking for their second goal here but fair play to Penybont, they're holding strong

Could be 2-0 or 3-0 but looking good especially as Penybont have had a few extra weeks fitness training on us

Paul Mt Worry is the last few seasons we play these very low league clubs and then everyone starts to believe all our players are suddenly real quality and then the league starts and we struggle all season against real opposition.

I just can’t get excited or carried away by beating teams like this.

Hopefully it’s 7 or 8 nil to us

True - think I'd like to see a win by 5 goals to make it worthwhile

Their keeper has done well in the first half. Yorweth, who used to be with us, hasn't really done much.

I don't think we should get carried away by the score, I think matches like this will tell the Gaffa who he wants to send out on loan or show them the door completely. If the rumours are true 4 or 5 that start will against Leeds haven't signed for us yet. Ojo was just a passenger in the first half.

Do they not play in Bridgend?

I thought Bridgend Town and Bryntirion merged to form Penybont

Penybont is Welsh for Bridgend
