Joel Bagan pens a new City deal
Joel Bagan 22 years old in 2 months
Bagan gets a new 3 year contract, so we should expect him to be in the match day squad week in week out.
Joel Bagan has extended his stay with the Bluebirds, putting pen to paper on a new three-year contract, which will run until the summer of 2026.
Bagan has made 34 first-team appearances for City in 3 years ,netting three goals, which came in three consecutive Championship fixture against Millwall, Coventry City and Blackpool.
Bagan also earned First Team experience whilst on loan at Notts County in 2020, where he featured in the National League play-off final against Harrogate Town. He made his first run out for the 2023/24 pre-season in Saturday's victory over Penybont before officially signing his new contract post-match.

Surprised it's three years, I think one year would be enough to give him this season to prove he's good enough.

He will be on cheap wages and if he improves will have sell on value

Just playing devil's advocate here for the discussion of it, may or may not be my opinion.
The problem with a 1 year deal is if he turns out to be the next wonderkid & Real Madrid offer him a contract in January for when he becomes a free agent we then end up with zero for him whereas a 3 year contract would mean we get a tidy sum.
It's a gamble but an inexpensive gamble on the whole if he turns out to be a lame duck.

most clubs to avoid such things happening, usually add a clause in contracts where the club themselves are able to activate another year, a 1 year deal with the option to add another would give the club some flexibility

Wez,
Your right they are on very low wages.
Harris was the lowest in the first team squad.
King and Bagan are very low wages.
3 years longer than I would give.

How much do you estimate are their very low wages to be, Annis. Are you thinking about £2,500.00 per week which would be my guess?

It’s standard to sign young players like this with 3-years.
If a breakout happens, you’re protected from a player leaving for free. If the player is a dud, it really won’t cost much at all to terminate and let go or sell to lower league teams.

Harris was approx £1,400 a week and that only lately, it was only £1,000 for ages.
We got what we paid for.
We would be re
The latest two are No more than £2,000 a week

Good luck to Joel. I'd prefer to see him develop as a midfielder or wide player. Not convinced he is a defender.
We desperately need one or two of these young lads to progress this season.

Exactly so if we decide to loan him out other clubs can match those wages and give us a loan fee so it's a win win .

A near 22 year old who made 1 league appearance and for the most part couldn’t get in the 20 man squad all last season rewarded with a 3 year deal?

Joel Bagan just before the season starts.
Bagan is 22 yrs old and for me he is either good enough for the Championship or not?
City loaned Bagan out to Notts County, three years ago,in the Non League and he was there for 7 games and they played him twice and sent him back.
Yes that’s three years ago, how many times did he play for us last season? ?
If he does go out on loan please to a club in League 1 like Barnsley / Pompey etc Not the Welsh League
