MY VIEW: CARDIFF CITY TODAY PLAYED BRISTOL ROVERS

Tue Jul 11, 2023 3:17 pm

MY VIEW:

First game 60 mins.

CARDIFF CITY TODAY PLAYED AT HOME TO LEAGUE 1 BRISTOL ROVERS AND AT STAGES STRUGGLED BIG TIME:

Robinson was the difference between the teams, my view you pay the money you get a quality player like Robinson.

Opening 15 mins Cardiff were torn apart by League 1 Rovers.

Simpson, Bagan, Evans and Ralls were really struggling with the pressure from Bristol Rovers, Evans , Bagan and Simpson were at times cover run by Rovers.

CARDIFF CITY 1 BRISTOL ROVERS 1
H-T 0-1

SUBS:
Alnwick, Romeo, Goutas, King, Benjamin, Collins, Campbell, Adams, Wintle, J. Colwill, R. Colwill, Tanner, O'Dowda, Davies, Ugbo, Watters

FIRST- HALF:

Cardiff were being torn apart:
13th min GOAL! Cardiff City 0-1 Bristol Rovers (Sinclair 13)
Cardiff were pulled all over the place and there are gaps everywhere. A reverse pass from Finley in behind Bagan is lovely and Sinclair is just waiting for a tap-in at the far post, which he does with ease after a square ball from Thomas.

Very Concerning for Cardiff -

For me against Rovers City were not good.

H-T 0-1

Cardiff improved massively.

GOAL! Cardiff City 1-1 Bristol Rovers (Robinson 46)

Robinson with a lovely strike!

Perry Ng with a great piece of defending to nick the ball and release Ojo, who turns the ball quickly into the path of Robinson. He is central and runs at the Rovers' defence before shifting on to his left and banging it past Belshaw. Great strike - showing his quality again.

Cardiff started to dominate.

Cant see Etete getting much game time this season unless he improves big time

One thing that impressed me was the Collins/O'Dowda combo. We missed that big time last season and we started to struggle a bit when they went off. Also must be said when was the last time you saw a raking cross field pass like Goutas made for the goal by a bluebirds CB.

Goutas played 3 lovely balls forward all right to the feet of the players.

Was going to ask what he was like. Did he defend well?

Obviously pre season and results don't really matter but the defending for their goal was absolutely tragic

To be fair he did not have a great deal to do defending wise He will need far better opponents for us to judge that

Second game was much better than the first game, although Robinson was very good in the first game again.

R Colwill, Tanner, O'Dowda and Ugbo did well.

R Colwill played as a ten again, clear that's where Bulut sees him playing. Good news, that's his best position.

Hard to judge Goutas because he didn't have any defending to do.

Collins was a bit rusty but that's understandable.

Ojo did well in the second half of the first game but Simpson was awful.

Another good run out and more learned by Bulut.

I know friendlies are more about fitness, but the lack of goals against lowly opposition just feels that we’re continuing where we left off last season. We need to sign some creativity and goal scorers from somewhere.
Not easy with no money to spend.

He’s been way off the required standard in pre season. He’s had chances and failed to take them.

His hold up play is very poor as is his passing range.

We need a lot better than Etete.

Think you are being polite in saying his hold up play is poor It has been absolutely shocking
