Ollie Tanner

Fair play to the lad he’s looking up for the challenge of holding down a place in the first team squad with his efforts so far in pre season.

Hopefully he kicks on from here

Yeah really pleased for him, hope he gets a shot.

I've always thought Ollie will make a good player given time but I think he needs a season on loan at a decent level where he'll be played.I don't think he'll get enough game time if he stays this season especially if the supposed signings come to fruition.

Agree, he did well today and has had a good pre-season.

But he's not likely to get much game time with us. Especially if we sign Ejuke and/or Pelkas.

Been made clear that Meite has been signed as a winger so in terms of players who play out wide (a few more likely to play number ten admittedly) we have:

Meite
O'Dowda
Robinson
R Colwill
Ojo
J Colwill
Evans
Potential new signing

A few of those could leave or go out on loan but, in reality, Tanner will struggle to get game time with the increased quality we have in those positions.

The lad can finish He needs to cut out some of his sloppy play His passing is not the best or his positional play However he is better than most that have come from our academy.

Let’s see the full squad first before loaning him out.

One injury and you’ll need someone to come in immediately.

This is why we still need depth all over the squad.

We can loan him out to a division 2 side and he'll improve or, if we give it greater thought, and let him train and play with our first team, then he'll improve more quickly.

We have 9 substitutes this year. If we include the likes of ollie Tanner in our match day experience will that not improve him more quickly

Agree Paul, keep him here and make him part of the project.
There's a few on the list above that need moving on imo.

I will say this very strongly,

We need Tanner to step up when we play Fulham and the two Portugal clubs.

For me Tanner like last season has still 100% not proved he is good enough for the Championship and don’t forget he failed miserably at lowly Non League York City last season.

Agreed!! It's ok saying he's playing well in pre-season when the intensity and fitness levels of others is not there. I don't think he will ever be good enough for the Championship. I hope he proves me wrong but he's now 21, if he's going to kick on the it needs to happen NOW.

Failed at York by all accounts so to me should be nowhere near the first team squad until he proves himself consistently in competitive games out on loan L1 or L2

Not falling for any hype around him again this season

He's not quick enough for this level.

So many fans say oh it’s only a friendly if we lose or the players play badly.
But as soon as we win against very low opposition and some players play well they make out they ready for the Championship, unbelievable same every year.

Just remember they are like training sessions v low opposition to get our players fit.

I really do hope Tanner finally can become a Championship player, but I have massive doubts after last season.

He's still got alot to learn but I think he has potential. He may be 21 but you've got to remember he's only been in professional football for a season..
