" Front four sorted? "

Sat Jul 15, 2023 9:34 pm

We know that we'll play 4-2-3-1 this season.

I think that's the first choice front four sorted now.

Grant as the striker, Ramsey just behind him with O'Dowda and Robinson on the wings.

Sounds like a very strong attack to me :bluebird:

We actually have two front 4s

Grant

Robinson. Ramsey. Meite

(Ex Chelsea player).

O’Dowda. Colwilll. Ojo.

Etete, Davies to add to the list too.

Can see Etete and Davies being loaned out now. Like you say, so many options in attack now.

Watters almost certainly leaving as well apparently.

I still think we will bring in another out and out striker to add to the squad.

Watters is going and maybe Davies on a short term loan but I can see Etete staying but obviously down the pecking order!

Are we naming 9 subs this season and allowed to bring on 5 or was I dreaming?

That's correct :thumbright:

Almost ironic that last season the attack was our weakness but now we have an embarrassment of riches.

Let’s hope our new manager can get the best out of them and we might just surprise people ( and us)

What about the back 4?

Goutas has come in for Kipre but we do seem to be lacking in quality cover at centre back.

I recall Malkay built a promotion team on the back of a no nonsense solid defence.

As for the front 4, I think EB can be flexible with what formation and who he uses now.

The back 4 wasn't really a problem after McGuiness came back and this season a back 4 of NG, Goutas, McGuiness, Collins looks pretty good to me.

The championship is a brutal league. The range between the first 11's of all 24 clubs is not that great, its why there are so many tight games and anyone can beat anyone in any given game, its the depth of the squad that separates those at the top of the table.

Last season we barely had 11 championship-grade players in the squad, Bulut looks like he knows that and is remedying that.

The attacking core looks solid with depth.
The defensive midefilders are deep as well, they are championship stoppers

Its now the back 4 turn. We still need 2 centre halfs and of course a keeper

Can’t see him moving Robinson from the centre, the more free role has suited him perfectly pre season

He can play on the left to good effect. He has pace snd can cut in. I think we may use the full backs for width and our wide men may well double up as extra strikers when the game allows.

That possibly means O’Dowda at LWB again then which is a waste, he’s better further up the pitch

I don't think we are going long as the primary tactic, so I doubt we need an out-and-out 9. I think we are going to be very fluid up top with a lot of movement and overloads.

I reckon this could be Rinomhota's break-out year, at the top of the double pivot with Wintle sitting, we'll need his athletism to get to potential trouble quickly, as it looks like one of the full backs will drive in field to crowd the middle, so if we turn over the ball we need pace and aggression to get it back or stop it.

I don't think Bulut uses wingbacks. It looks like the width is held back the wide forwards and one of the full-backs push upfield but inwards to suck the opposition in-feild.

O'Dowda may be a reserve fullback option, but it looks like his defenders need to defend first and O'Dowda is an attacker.

Certainly agree with your last sentence.

We were poor many times last season in defence. McGuinness was all over the place against Swansea at home. We definitely need another player next to Goutas with McGuinness as depth (unless he’s improved a load this summer). Need a backup for Collins as we don’t want to use O’Dowda there.

100%.

People think Cardiff only have to play direct or hoofball. I hate it and I’m glad we are aiming for fluidity and attack minded football.
