Player Loan Restrictions - FIFA Ruling

Sun Jul 16, 2023 6:24 pm

whilst it’s good to see we are signing quality players early. But does anyone think we will struggle to sign quality loan players from premier league clubs?

Because FIFA's new rule states a club can only loan a maximum of eight players aged 21 or over to different associations at any one time and the same applies to the number which can be loaned in. The problem is set to be compounded in the coming years, with the maximum dropping to seven in 2023/24. It will then be cut to six indefinitely from 2024/25.

In practice, this means big Premier League clubs, who naturally have a high number of players out on loan, are likely to be more reluctant about commiting to loaning players to Welsh clubs if there are English alternatives.

Does this mean, we really need to expand outside of the premier league and have scouting networks with good knowledge in the European transfer market?

If we swapped from the faw to the fa would that mean we aren’t subject to any restrictions?

Could this be the reason we loan out a few to the Welsh league?

In hindsight yes we won’t be under those restrictions.

Most likely reason we are loaning more players in the welsh pyramid system with our under 21 squad.

If that is the case, I think the whole ruling needs to be looked at. Not helping development of our youth players at all.

What is the benefit the club get being FAW rather than FA affiliated?
Would the FA let us in if we asked?

I may be wrong, but I think we can bring in a maximum of 8 loan players, but only a maximum of 4 loan players can be named in a match day squad?

I also remember us missing out on an Arsenal defender on loan last season, because we would be classed as a foreign loan and Arsenal had used their foreign loan quota up, so he went on loan to Birmingham instead. Surname was Trusty I think, a left footed centre back.

This would explain why some of the players we let out on loan go to the Welsh Premier instead of English lower leagues.

This rule was brought in to stop clubs like Man City stockpiling talent and loaning them out all over the world.

There is a stat going around stating that there a 36 players bought by Man City who, in total, spent 127 years at the club and there were only 6 appearances between them. They spent the whole time on loan.

This loans restriction has caused further issues as Man City now sell young talent to 12 clubs around the world. Oddly they are all owned by the same City Football Group.

In Leagues where there are spending caps, City Footbal Group clubs get an unfair advantage by getting cheap players from Man City who would be unavailable to other clubs in the same league.

With this in mind managers of some of these clubs must have no say in who they sign.
