MY VIEW " CARDIFF CITY TOOK ON PORTUGAL'S 3RD BEST TEAM FROM LAST SEASON "

Cardiff City played Braga in a friendly in Portugal tonight. There was no Aaron Ramsey or Ryan Allsop, they will play against FC Porto on Saturday

Braga won the game 1-0

Braga took the lead just before half time thanks to a soft penalty decision which was scored in the 39th minute.

But we held our own against a Champions League team and put in a good performance :thumbright:

Bulut put out two different teams for each half, apart from Alnwick who played in both.

City did well against a team in the Champions League. It was our toughest game yet and there were a lot of things to feel positive about.

We were very good going forward, with plenty of pace and quick passing :bluebird:

In the first half team I thought Kieron Evans, Ebou Adams, Jamilu Collins and Rubin Colwill did very well.

But I thought that Ollie Tanner and Kion Etete both struggled.

In the second half team I thought Dimitrios Goutas, Karlan Grant, Callum Robinson, Ike Ugbo and Ryan Wintle were good. Already signs of a good partnership between Grant and Robinson.

Ng at times struggled and Braga did well on his side.

A very encouraging performance from Cardiff City tonight and plenty of positives for Erol Bulut :ayatollah:

First half team: Alnwick, Romeo, Benjamin, Simpson, Collins, Rinomhota, Adams, Tanner, Evans, Colwill, Etete

Second half team: Alnwick, Ng, Goutas, McGuinness, O'Dowda, Ralls, Wintle, Meite, Robinson, Grant, Ugbo

Most of Braga team were first team looking at Thier stats. Plus a new signing. So a good result.

Karlan was a stand out for me in 2nd half. Created space on the left by dropping shoulder and then using his pace. Early days but he could be a bit of a coup if Erol can get best out of him.
Game was of low intensitt but it was a hot one. Good run out

Not a bad result if they are a champions league side and considering we used all the squad

I predict that front 3 in the second half will terrorize alot of championship defences this coming season, especially with rambo and Colwill pulling the strings.

I’m surprised by the optimism on here. We didn’t win the ball back quick enough and couldn’t keep it when we had it. Barely created and obviously didn’t score. Reminded me of last season, lacking any real identity. We’ve not scored many goals across pre-season, even against low level opposition.
I know they are friendlies but you’re still allowed to score.
Without 3 more quality signings, we’re going to continue where we left off last season.

Completely disagree with your comments if I'm honest, but it's all about opinions :thumbright:

Oh I see, so then you’re not trying to get the ball, keep it when you have it and then score? It’s just about running around?
Then when the season starts it will just click and we’ll show everyone how we can really play?
Right, got you

The opposition were pretty handy though; better than anything we’ll come up against in the championship.
Would you rather us play Div 2 opposition for whole of pre-season?
I saw the whole game and yes, we struggled to hold onto it for large periods but we were clearly trying to build up from the back with a purpose and we generally kept our defensive shape pretty much throughout as Brags struggled to break through. I’m sure they wanted to score too.

You make a point about the ball retention and the passing was poor at times, but you have to remember this was just a training session, and the players don't know each other yet, but that will improve in the next few weeks.

Some of the new players played well, Goutas and Grant, not so sure on the other two, but it's very early days.

We looked like we will have a lot more pace and options upfront and O'Dowda looked really good and will be even better when we play him as an out and out winger again.

Overall a very positive friendly, I think we may surprise a few this season.

Played ok considering it was against superior opposition in heat. Can only benefit the players playing against teams like this. Such a soft pen but what frustrates me about city is needlessly giving the ball away playing out from the back, it happened a good few times and needs to be sorted out. It's not the defending it's what the defence does with the ball once they have possession. Only a friendly but for me that was our biggest weakness.

You play to win !!! WTF is this "its only a friendy", even Erol has said he wants a win every game.

Well given that it was two different teams each half made me happy with how it played out the pen was soft imo. I think the secound team put out added with Collins at left back and Adams instead of rolls just for the fact Adams was going at them in tackles like a man with a point to prove I think we would if beat them and let's not forget the secound team has never played together before so I'm super impressed I think we will have a rough idea on the managers team against Porto or atleast close to what he wants to use. Overall great run out good work rate just need some players to look for the forward pass a tad more

thought the ref standard was very poor, some of the things he give fouls for were just part and parcel of championship football, so it was either a case of "european refereeing" or poor ref.

noticed in both halfs, our attakcs always seemed to stem from the left hand side, Collins and Evans in the first half, and then O'Dowda Grant thge second half, after seeing that last night, i would like to see O'Dowda play wing, and put Grant through the middle, he looked confident running at the defenders and i think through the middle, he'd have a better sight at goal. big tall strong target man, a much all round more complete player than Etete, think could do the job there. Meite was very quiet on the right, not sure if he's considered pacey but didn't seem to show much pace.

overall though its a friendly, its a 45 minute run out in the heat, last big round of conditioning, although i think we do look a bit bloated in some areas and maybe lacking in others
