Cardiff City Stadium naming rights

Sat Jul 22, 2023 9:35 am

I am sorry if this is a very basic question for many of the regulars on this forum, but for years now, whilst CCFC has struggled with lack of money for investment in new players, I have wondered why the stadium naming rights have not been sold.

Most other clubs at this level seem to utilise this to raise money through sponsorship, so why don't we?

I like the simplicity of it just being called the Cardiff City Stadium ( much better than some of the hideous names out there).

someone will correct me if i am wrong, but i am sure if we have a naming rights on our stadium Sam or Ridsdale, i can't remember who, but someone gets a chunk of money

I'd rather not sell the rights for fear of getting some odd name like Bet365 Stadium.

I'd be very picky on who we went with.

The Liberty Stadium was a decent name.

Yep. See, the .com let's it down.

Wonder what we would call the stadium if the Principality Building Society sponsored it. Be funny to have two stadiums with the same name a few miles apart.

Would the FA allow the Pornhub Stadium?

The bet365 Stadium isn't really an odd name when you consider the owners of Stoke also own bet365.

But I prefer our stadium name as it is.

Knowing our club, if they did change the name then it would probably be The Visit Malaysia Stadium :banghead:

Even if they did rename it, I expect most fans would still call it CCS. Not many people say they want to see their team play at Wembley Stadium connected by EE.

I understand WHY it is called Bet365 Stadium, its just a tacky name. Some brands lend themselves to naming right, some don't.

Louis Vuitton Stadium sounds so much better than Primark Stadium.

Actually I think I've just proved I'm a Stadium name snob and it has nothing to do with the actual wording.

I see what you mean now :thumbright:

As I said, prefer us to just stick with CCS. It can bring in money to the club by having naming rights on the stadium, but many clubs at this level don't have it and have gone on to be successful. It's not something a club needs and more desirable to not have it.

Or they could be really classy and name it after someone who did a lot for the club, then gave the ultimate sacrifice.. someone like Ninian Stuart even.

Ninian Stadium hasn't quite got the ring to it. Wonder what we could use instead of stadium?????

Would there be many against giving up any future money for rights and calling it Whittingham Park?

Disagree on naming stadiums after club legends.

Name a stand after them, give them a statue etc but not the stadium name. That's a step too far, even for Whitts.

When it comes to stadium naming rights you cannot get worse than up here where Bolton Wanderers ground has just been renamed:

The Toughsheet Community Stadium
