Important new policy in CCFC Customer charter.

This season the football clubs and police are clamping down on so called "tragedy chanting". It has become more prevalent last season and clubs are incorperating new regulations into their ground regulations. I wanted to give everyone the heads up ahead of the coming season in the hope that it doesn't happen with out support.
What is "Tragedy chanting"?

We have had it aimed at us in the past with opposing fans chanting "Aberfan" or mocking Sala, Our fans have also done it to other clubs. From this season action will now be taken and people will be arrested, banned etc, If caught doing this.
Fans may think that they are safe in a large group singing stuff like "Lizzie's in a box" or chanting about Hillsborough, Munich, Turkey etc. However individulas will be identified and face consequences.

Fans will always have banter and sing songs at each other, thats not a problem, but specific "tragedy chanting" is now being targeted by clubs and authorities, in a bid to rid them from the game.

My role is to communicate information to you and this is not meant to be a "woke" post or anything like that, just sharing information that may help prevent any of our fans getting into trouble. If you see someone starting a chant like this, ask them to stop, don't join in, it will soon peter out.

Policy reads:

Cardiff City Football Club will not tolerate “TRAGEDY CHANTING” and it wants our fans to understand the impact it has on family, friends and football supporters in general.

Those closely associated with loss and tragedy and many
other fans can become deeply distressed when hearing such chants and it is therefore totally unacceptable behaviour.


We advise that offenders will be sanctioned by the club, in accordance with our ground regulations, customer charter Code of Conduct and Club Sanction Policy.

Incidents are also likely to be investigated by the police for such chanting and associated negative behaviour is now considered a Public Order Offence.


It is also important to note that fans who engage “TRAGEDY CHANTING” or attempt to enter the stadium with flags, banners, or clothing that could be seen as offensive, will be refused entry to, or be ejected from Cardiff City matches home or away, following agreement with fellow clubs.


Thereafter behaviour will be considered for further action as identified above.

Good addition

This all makes sense.

As you say, banter is fine and rightly part of the atmosphere at games but the line has to be drawn somewhere.

I know several fans (a very small minority) have made airplane gesture to us over recent seasons.

You also hear every season of Man Utd and Liverpool fans singing about Hillsborough/Munich.

This new policy is the right thing to do.

That's more a comedy of errors than a tragedy.

Its been a long time coming this and I welcome it.

Only question I have is where is the drawing line to all this. I support the answer is in the word "Tragedy". Lizzie in a Box and Sale Flying motions are definite that come under this rule. I would also put "Gas a Jack" there, I'm so glad we don't sing that anymore. I don't find any of these funny so yes lets get rid of the culprits that sing them.
