LEEDS UNITED v CARDIFF CITY
Sunday 6th August, 2.30pm
Sky Bet Championship

Cardiff have sold their allocation of 1,960 tickets in 24hrs

Cardiff City XI: Alnwick; Ng, Goutas, McGuinness, O'Dowda; Wintle, Ralls; Bowler, Ramsey, Grant; Ugbo.

Subs: Luthra, Romeo, Etete, Collins, Adams, Meite, Simpson, Rinomhota, Robinson. #CCFC #Bluebirds

UPDATED:

Leeds are not only missing their three main strikers, they’ve had to call up a few Accademy youngsters and also one or two will be making their league debuts.

Where as Erol Buluts Cardiff City has virtually a fully fit squad.

Romaine Sawyers and Ryan Allsop are the only two sure-fire Cardiff absentees.

In Allsop's absence Bulut has confirmed Jak Alnwick will start.

Ryan Allsop is ruled out of the Leeds United clash this weekend. Could miss QPR, too.

Erol Bulut on injuries:

‘Yakou Méïté had a small injury, Joe Ralls will be back in a few days, Mark McGuinness had a small kick on his knee in the last game and Rubin Colwill felt some stiffness. Romaine Sawyers had a small knee injury with the national team but will train next week.’

First game of the season :ayatollah:

Away tickets have sold out for Cardiff City fans, but the club have asked for more :bluebird:

Can I stream or watch the match on TV?

This match is live on Sky Sports.

Elland Road

Leeds have played their home games at Elland Road for over 100 years.

With a capacity of nearly 38,000, it is the 14th biggest stadium in England.

The record crowd at Elland Road was 57,892 for a game against Sunderland in 1967.

The Opposition's Manager

Daniel Farke was appointed Leeds manager this summer.

He previously managed Norwich City between 2017 and 2021. In his time at Carrow Road, they twice won the Championship title - although he also oversaw a Premier League relegation in this time.

Since leaving Norwich, he has had spells in charge of Krasnodar and Borussia Monchengladbach.

Opposition Dangerous Players

Ethan Ampadu I expect to prove to be a great signing for Leeds.

Patrick Bamford is a proven goalscorer at this level.

Head To Head

We have lost just one of our last five meetings with Leeds, winning two of them.

Last time we played was in the FA Cup Replay at Elland Road in January, with the hosts winning 5-2.

Team News - Predicted Line-Ups

Very difficult to predict line-ups as it's the first game of the season. Basing this of the starting line-ups in the last pre-season friendlies so could be completely wrong.

Leeds United: Meslier, Ayling, Cooper, Ampadu, Cresswell, Byram, Shackleton, Sinisterra, James, Gelhardt, Bamford

Cardiff City: Allsop, Ng, Goutas, Simpson, O'Dowda, Wintle, Adams, Ramsey, Ojo, Grant, Ugbo

Last Game

Leeds were relegated from the Premier League on the final day last season, in their last game they lost 4-1 to Tottenham.

In our last game of last season, we lost 3-0 at champions Burnley.

Match Odds

Leeds United - 4/11
Cardiff City - 8/1
Draw - 7/2

I can only see a Leeds win here.

Our best hope of coming away with something will depend on Leeds not getting it right atm.

To win we have to score & I just can't see that happening, I think we're probably going to need to score even for a draw and again that doesn't seem to be happening any time soon so at the moment I see nothing but a Leeds win.

The bookies odds at 8/1 are decent for anyone who's not bet before or new to betting. if you stick a £10 on you will lose a £10.

Can see nothing from this game tbh but let's pray :bluescarf:

It is time for Bulut to deliver, he has played a mix and match approach to every pre season game. If we do not see a real first team 11 who can compete he will lose fans very quickly, this is not a long term project. Tan and Dalman are expecting a promotion challenge which can start with a win at Leeds. There is enough quality so there is no need to play average players. If Bulut does not show he can win games he will not last long. We will see because this is now all on Bulut.

You think a handful of freebies and loans is a promotion challenge as that's all hes had to work with due to the embargo situation plus the current deadwood that was there when he rocked up at the door. I hope your right but can't see anywhere near mid table let alone promotion challenge imo.

I hope everyone hopes I am right. Grant was a £12 million signing and we have Ramsey plus Goustas is a class defender. Wealso had some good players here when Bulut arrived. You are right after last season it is a big ask. I am banking on the new players to help change our fortunes.

Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow joins Leeds United -

Leeds United have made their second senior signing of the summer as Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow joins the Whites on a three year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Darlow began his career at Nottingham Forest as an academy product, and joined former club Newcastle in 2014 after a series of loans.

Leeds have lost loads of their prem first team squad and they are rebuilding too.I think they are some way behind us with their new manager and has had less time than Bulut to prepare.I think we'll give a good account of ourselves.

Playing away with a team going at us just might suit us.
Wouldn’t be surprised if we sneaked a 1-0, particularly if we’re 0-0 at half time as the pressure on them will be immense; let’s hope the players feel it.

Re: TEAM NEWS: ‘ LEEDS UNITED v CARDIFF CITY ‘MATCH THREAD

Cardiff City manager Erol Bulut is confident of making signings before the Bluebirds' Championship opener against Leeds United next Sunday.

Cardiff played out a goalless draw against Wycombe Wanderers in their final pre-season game on Saturday. Despite playing some nice stuff at times they lacked that real goal threat when it mattered.

It's not a secret that Cardiff are looking to add an out-and-out striker this summer, however Bulut wants more than just a striker in through the door.

"Not only a striker, we will try and make a few more transfers. But we have to see in the coming week," he said. When asked if the club were close to any more new additions, he added: "Possibly. Do you want names? You'll have to wait!"

The most concerning injuries relate to captain Joe Ralls and new signing Yakou Meite.

Ralls was taken off early against Porto after complaining of an injury and has not played since.

While Meite missed that game against the Portuguese champions altogether. Meite also struggled last season with injuries.
He has only 45 minutes of football, against Braga, to his name in pre-season, meaning he is a major doubt for this Sunday's clash with Daniel Farke's side.

Mark McGuinness is arguably the most troubling of all, though. Cardiff's defence, especially centrally, looks thin on the ground at the moment. Beyond McGuinness and Dimitrios Goutas, the Bluebirds aren't particularly strong in that area of the pitch, although it must be pointed out that Jack Simpson has had a decent pre-season.

"He had a small kick on his knee in the last game, that's why we didn't want to risk him," Bulut said of the centre-back.

"Also, Joe Ralls, he had a small pain on his leg. We haven't taken them to the game in order for them to not risk a big injury. Yakou, too."

Asked if McGuinness was going to be available for Sunday, Bulut replied: "I think yes."

After enjoying a positive pre-season in that playmaker or second-striker role, it was disheartening to see Rubin Colwill miss the trip to Adams Park on the weekend.

It seemed the 21-year-old had got through pre-season scot free, having struggled for the best part of a year with injuries, but a flare-up has put a speed bump in the way of his preparations for the season.

Bulut, again, is hopeful he will be back this week. "Rubin feels stiffness in his muscle and we didn't want to risk it," the Bluebirds boss said. "Next week, Tuesday, for training, everyone will be included."

Romaine Sawyers is a curious one. Yes, he was away with St Kitts and Nevis on international duty until the start of this month, but that was now four weeks ago.

Sawyers has not featured in any of Bulut's eight pre-season games and looks unlikely to feature on Sunday. When asked whether Sawyers featured in the manager's plans, Bulut cited international duty and a small knock to the knee during his time playing in the Gold Cup.

"He had with the national team. He played until July 3 and we gave him some rest," Bulut said of Sawyers. "He had a small knee injury from the games there, but he will also be at training next week."

It was concerning to see first-choice goalkeeper Ryan Allsop also have to be taken off in an unplanned substitution at Wycombe. The goalkeeper went down early in the second half and had to receive treatment before being substituted for Jak Alwnick.

The severity of Allsop's issue is not yet known. Similarly with Callum Robinson, who appeared to be complaining with a hip or groin issue towards the end of the friendly for Joe Jacobson's testimonial match.

What is the latest team news ahead of Leeds United vs Cardiff City?

Leeds have loaned out a number of last season's squad, and that hasn’t stopped ahead of the weekend with Max Wober joining Borussia Monchengladbach on loan until the end of the season.

Ethan Ampadu was involved in the action against Hearts over the weekend and he will be expected to play some part in the season opener, as was Archie Gray, who is just 17 years of age.

Georginio Rutter was injured in the clash in Edinburgh, before fellow striker Patrick Bamford was also injured in the second half to leave the Whites with a real striker crisis ahead of the season opener - and with Bamford previously struggling with his hamstring, it’s not an injury that will be welcomed by Farke.

I be happy with a good performance from Cardiff, hard to see us getting anything but who knows with it being game one, Leeds sold something like 15 players and have couple injuries.

Experienced goalkeeper Ryan Allsop started 43 of Cardiff’s 46 league games last season but new Bluebirds boss Erol Bulut has revealed that Allsop suffered an injury in the club’s final pre-season friendly against Wycombe Wanderers and will likely miss Sunday’s clash in West Yorkshire.

Jak Alnwick, who has played just seven times for Cardiff, is instead heading for a start in goal for a team who will still be without Romaine Sawyers despite his return to training this week after extended international duty with Saint Kitts and Nevis and a minor knee injury.

Bit of a cliché but minimum expectation is every player gives 100% performance level.

We didn't get that from everyone last season. Players need to show they give a 5hit about playing for Cardiff.
