After last seasons debacle.

Fri Aug 04, 2023 12:01 pm

Talking to a neighbour, who knows a lot about football, a lot more than I ever realised, he is a die hard football fanatic and goes all over home, away friendlies etc watching his team, also previously was the vice chairman of the supporters club.

Anyway was talking to him about city and last season, and was telling him how I felt about what happened, 4 managers in one season, always fighting off relegation the whole season, the umpteen court cases the transfer embargo etc and basically the whole debacle of last season.

I walked away from the conversation feeling really optimistic with the season ahead, after pointing out the new manager, all be it an unknown for most of us, has come in and seemed to have settled early on getting some new signings inc the likes of Ramsey etc,

He then said to me, you watch the original players start proving there worth now also, and I couldn’t help think of people like Ojo, Rinhimota, Kete etc, all underwhelmed last year.

He said how would you feel as a player if during the season you had 4 different managers possibly telling you 4 different ways of playing they want you to do, let alone if you fit into there plans in the first place, having to try to impress 4 different times during a season, that no wonder we struggled ! And we should see an upturn in consistent performances this year.

If the new manager is decent enough to stay, has a clear plan and the respect of the squad then we should be looking at mid table as the worst case scenario given the players we have that can turn a game around.

I then told him there is a strong possibility of Moore coming back, he said the extra goals he will give (a net extra of about 10 or 12) should see us pushing for play offs if that’s the case.

It’s going to be different City this year, mark my word bluebirds :bluebird:

I hope your Neighbor doesn't have a post code of SA1 :D

Its interesting that many of the so-called knowledgeable pundits have us down for the relegation zone. I am with your neighbor, I think our glass is more than half full and many of the players from last year will benefit from the likes of Rambo, Grant and Goutas etc being in the squad. And if you look at the players that have been shown the door there is a drastic uplist the the quality of the squad. Bulut has done what most of us thought needed to happen in the club, and from what we hear the players are enthusiastic to the newly found stability within the club.

THE BLUEBIRDS ARE DEFINATELY ON THE UP :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Totally agree with you regarding the quality of the squad being much improved. I along with nearly all our fans feared the worse for the coming season. There appeared to be no way we could have attracted the players we have following such a calamitous season. Thankfully the board reached the same conclusion and decided to do something about it for which they should be commended.

I feel reasonably confident that once our new recruits have been fully integrated into the team, we can expect a far higher level of consistency and much improved performances.

Well this time last season - We did not get a striker in .... You could say that we have got in 3 this time .

On the other hand - We should have got a keeper to add to the squad ( as most were saying on here )

Overall we got in 6 new players to date - Manager wanted 10 - Personally happy with Mid/Fwd departments .

Good Luck to the Club this season :bluebird: :bluescarf:
