Wrexham sign James McLean

Weird signing. Don’t they like being loved and being everyone’s second team?

This player will certainly curtail that.

He won't wear a poppy because he came from the same estate in Derry where UK forces shot 6 civilians. Said he'd wear it if it represented the efforts of our forces outside of the Northern Ireland troubles. Also this:

Philanthropy
McClean has made a number of charitable donations. He made a significant donation to homeless people at the Wells and Foyle Valley House in Derry.[135] He donated £1,500 for a custom hand cycle bike to help a child who had Spina Bifida.[136] He made another significant donation to the Wells facility in the Bogside, for up to 24 men who have alcohol problems.[137] He paid £1,750 for a new mobile home after hearing about a pregnant homeless woman's struggles on social media.[138] He donated £1,000 to help pay for specialist proton therapy in Florida for a four-year-old child with cancer.[139] He donated €1,200 to help pay for the funeral of a two-year-old boy who was struck by a car.[140] In December 2016 he set up a new clothing line with proceeds going to help homeless residents of his native Derry.[141] He donated £500 to an online fund set up to support the family of a missing Derry man

Sounds like this saint of a player should have signed for Derry!( One of the dirtiest players I have had the misfortune to see ).

The poppy represents the efforts of our forces from 1918 not Ireland. I’m confused by your point.

Charitable stuff is admirable. He’s still a prick and no one likes him. Still a weird signing.

That’s his point though. He has said he wouldn’t have a problem if it had stayed as a symbol for the just the World Wars and those conscripted etc.

If the British army had come and massacred 26 unarmed civilians during say the Ely riots a few weeks back and then we were being told around November time that the poppy represents support for the British armed forces both past and present, not just the brave men who served in WW1 and 2, I think a lot of people here would take issue with that.

If the Army went into the middle of those riots in Ely and shot 26 people I would think happy days

Hardly the same is it .

Totally isn’t. There was a lot of history before any of the troubles happened.

Still isn’t fixed.

Im in belfast today and was in Derry last Thursday, still got the problems , can't see Ireland ever being unified.

There’s plenty who don’t want that to ever be the case.

Strange that they do when it comes to rugby.

Been talking to a few people there's a growing support for them being independent of Britain and Ireland so can't see it now .

'Im in belfast today and was in Derry last Thursday, still got the problems , can't see Ireland ever being unified.'

It'll never change, there'll always be that underlying problem. It's even rampant in the west of Scotland and beyond.

The fact is the poppy is a hated symbol in parts of Derry /Londonderry and thats where’s he’s from.
Another fact is that a hell of a lot of bad stuff was done by all sides during the troubles and I’m very pro British military.
Stayed with an ex ira man in Limervady and heard the other side of the story …didn’t agree with much of what he said but it opened my eyes to stuff I knew nothing about.
We live in a democracy so I can choose to wear it and he can choose not to and I always will wear one

He won’t wear a Poppy but he’s more than happy to wear an IRA Balaclava, when giving his children a “history” lesson. I’m sure he told them his heroes slaughtered innocent men women and children, shooting and bombing everything from pubs, shopping centres and even a Memorial Service at Eniskillen. A vile scumbag who hates anything British except the money. Strange he didn’t sign for celtic.

I think changing demographics mean a united Ireland is inevitable.

Not sure of that mate there's a growing independence movement especially in the youth to be a totally independent country of Britain and Ireland, a United Dublin ruled Ireland will never happen .

There was a Loyalist push for an independent Ulster in the 80s. Both my grandfather’s were Ulstermen but I’ve only visited the Province once, for a Linfield V Rangers friendly, the “peace” wall is so depressing. Clowns like McLean certainly don’t help the situation.

Was at the peace wall on Saturday toured the Shankill and falls area , surprisingly Derry was more colourful of colours , belfast was a bit more restraint in its murals etc.
