Cardiff City Defender leaves permanently to join:

Sat Aug 05, 2023 11:26 am

Another Cardiff player from the U21’s leaves to join a Welsh League team permanently.

Two years ago Jones had raving reviews of reporter Glen Williams.

Taylor Jones has signed for Cambrian & Clydach, in the lower leagues of Welsh Football.

Defender Jones aged 20 came through the Cardiff Accademy, then Signed at 18 years old professional forms.

Jones leaves Cardiff on a permanent deal with Cambrian & Cludach.

Good luck to the lad.

If our under 21s are leaving for this level then they never should have been in our under 21 squad.

If there are 24 championship clubs with an 18~21 man U21 squad then there must be at least 450 graduating every season. How many of that cohort will make the championship, 10% ??? probably the same will end up in L1,L2 or conference

Championship U21's are probably setting up lads for semi-pro football, that's why it is important the lads get an education that is not football, as it's a brutally cut throat business.

I think fans are upset because we are told by the Media / The Board that these are great prospects.
But they are lately going to League 1 or 2 they are ending up playing for virtually village teams.

And 99.9% are virtually ending up being moved on after we are were told what great prospects they are and many were put in our Championship Squad

The business of football is brutal and the percentage of any EFL academy player making it to full pro is around 0.001% (I used to know the exact figure but it's extremely low) due to the numbers involved at any given time. It's a football factory these days and as someone said, the education side is vital as most won't make it. But we do have a quality issue and I hope Gavin Chesterfield is the guy to sort that out as we are simply not producing, so maybe we need to be more brutal in our selection.

When I was a kid, you had to be like Pele's left bollock to get a pro trial, now it's big business it's not the case and it shows with the amount of youngsters who exit for the lower leagues. It's actually not fair on the kids in the long term but that's the way it is, beautiful game, shit business.

To be fair that’s a really silly post.

The lad obviously showed potential at a younger age but didn’t fulfil it.
Happens to hundreds of players every year throughout virtually ally clubs.

He may well have at a younger age but this is a player given a professional contract after the age of 18 If we have players getting professional contracts after 18 then their level should be way above this level At a minimum he should be going to top division of League of Wales and most would say it should be a higher level than that.
