Added Time in Matches

Mon Aug 07, 2023 2:03 pm

The first weekend of the EFL has shown that the length of a match can be as much as 110 minutes and we as the punters are going to get more football for our money.

It will require a new mindset for all teams, and as we discovered yesterday results can be changed in that extended period of play, we were the unfortunate victims of the new extended play, we must not switch off at all during that additional period, as it could be crucial to the overall finish of the league position.

Another by-product is that we as fans will be in the ground much later that previous seasons so adjustment will be required about after match transport and other events :occasion5:

The number of goals that go in, during the last few minutes of a game is staggering.

Although it cost us the win, I think the new measures around added time are good.

Players will learn that every bit of wasting time will be added on.

For example, there were 13 minutes added in Sunderland v Ipswich.

Like you say, will give fans better value for money as the ball will be in play more often.

Travel will have to be considered for fans but, as most matches are 3pm, it shouldn't have a big impact.

I’m all for clamping down on time wasting.

An reason they can’t stop the clock like they do in rugby? Surely that takes away people being consciously aware of how much is added on and the players juts play to the clock.

Why not yellow card them for time wasting

Tried that and it doesn't work. This is the best option.

Dead against these new rules the more I think about it. It's adding a potential +20mins to the game past the first whistle.

I have never sat there and thought "I'm being ripped off due to the ball not being in play enough". In some cases, like freezing my tits off and an awful game, I'd have been happy to call the game earlier!

Far better ways to manage this in my opinion, like actually policing rules like the 6-second rule for keepers (as an example).

They want the ball in play for longer, so this is the best way.

I know when we've been up against a team who are time wasting and then only four minutes are added it extremely annoying (clubs may also have said the same about us at times) and this puts an end to that.

100% in agreement with new added time As fans many pay good money to watch football and want to see as much football being played within the 90 minutes.
Fed up with all the time wasting The kicking away of balls and many other things in football that it needs to be dealt with

I'm in favour of these changes, time wasting is a curse. Players need to learn that it's pointless.

No idea why there is so much fuss over this.
Manager tells players to cut out time wasting then the time at the end wont be long.
It's all about the managers telling players.
I dont care about time being added on because it's a more exciting end to a match.

Agreed I'm happy with it, I bet it will cost Warnock ten points or more a season, and could make the difference between then staying up and going down.

It will help teams like Man City that can retain the ball and make the other teams chase, an extra ten minutes when the opposition is tired will make them even stronger, so Man City to win the League more comfortably again this season.
