TONIGHT CARDIFF CITY WERE SAVED EMBARRASSMENT BY OUR GOALIE

MY VIEW: A STRONG MIXTURE OF EXPERIENCE & YOUNGER QUALITY CARDIFF PLAYERS TOOK ON LEAGUE 2 COLCHESTER

League 2 Colchester United at home, Colchester were 6/1 to win as Cardiff were without doubt expected to win this home tie.

CARDIFF SURRENDERED ONCE AGAIN A 2 GOAL LEAD BUT THIS TIME V A LEAGUE 2 TEAM & FOR THE LAST 10MINS COLCHESTER HAD ONLY 10MEN.

TONIGHT CARDIFF CITY WERE SAVED EMBARRASSMENT BY OUR GOALIE ALNWICK

City drew with Colchester

Bulut needs to look at our defence, they make to many mistakes.

Alnwick Saves the day with his 3 penalty saves.

Rubin Colwill shone tonight.

PENALTIES:

CARDIFF CITY SCRAPE THROUGH ON PENALTIES: 3-2

But very worrying about many of these players.

FIRST-HALF:Rubin Collwill was all over Colchester.

In the 16th min Goodman pulls off a wonder save to keep out @RubinColwill. Stunning turn from Rubin to make space in the box.

19th min:1nil City
Rubin Colwill scores, he’s running the show

36th min Etete 2nil.

40th min: Akinde pulls a goal back. (2-1)

45th min Two-all. Taylor at close range. (2-2) Embarrassing

Our defence is awful and Collins gave that ball away to gift Colchester their 2nd goal.
Actually Collins was done far to easy by a League 2 player.

SECOND-HALF:

Colchester made 4 changes at h-t

Colwill more shots and good football.

60th min: Joel Colwill replaced Sawyers

75th - @joelbagan comes on, replacing the injured Benjamin.

88th @AshfordCian comes on for his City debut! He replaces Ollie Tanner!

89th min: RED! Horrible challenge from Tovide. A knee to JC's head. Deservedly sent off.

PENALTIES: Rubin Colwill has his saved: Thankfully Alnwick saves one.

Jak Alnwick saves us from embarrassment, three penalty saves from him.

Proves fringe players aren't good enough.

Collins won't be playing in the league any time soon, injury seems to have affected him a lot. Awful foul on him and looks like another injury.

Thank god for our keeper. Scraping past a div 2 side does not fill me with any confidence most aint up to div1 level tbh but one or two performances decent :bluescarf:

Ian,

I have said for the last couple of years many of these players that played tonight need to be shipped out, not loaned out.

Just shows defensive options need significant improvement!
Bulut will sort it.

I thought midfield and offensively we were pretty good tonight.

Our defence was really poor and needs strengthening. We have little depth in the centre especially.

Overall thought we played well. Tanner, Romeo, Sawyers really played well. Alnwick should be number 1 ahead of Allsop for me now.

Thought we looked weak at the left side at the back Simpson and Collins weren't at it. Think Collins might need some time. New left back required so O'Dowda can play further forward. Thought Kieron Evans was far too of the out of position in the first half. We would shift the ball out to the left but he'd be in the middle of the park somewhere.

Etete, I don't know if it's just me but from what I seen tonight I thought he was garbage

O’Dowda is becoming a seriously good LB for us, why change that? Think I prefer the other options on the wing or sign another. Definitely need depth in defence, ideally someone who can switch between CB and FB.

It’s too simplistic and an overreaction to say it proves the fringe players aren’t good enough. Romeo, Sawyers, Rhino, Tanner and Colwill all did well. Poor goals conceded but that doesn’t define every player.

How is Etete a professional footballer? He was awful lastnight. Lost the ball a number of times, no effort to win it back either just walking back.

Yet another glaring example of our inability to manage a game :banghead: :banghead:

Nothing to do with game management. I thought this was done superbly by Bulut.

The manager wanted a good look at Etete and he would have learned a lot last night.

Whilst his hold up play was shocking and he often looks off balance, he scored a goal and should have had two after an effort smashed against the bar.

5,168 attendance last night, lowest of all Championship home games in the League Cup.

it was shocking, he was always on the floor, he cannot hold up the ball, his first touch sometimes lets him down, and the amount of times he didn't chase down a loose ball, just stood still or walked around instead,

i said before the game, that was calling out for Robinson, the amount of times having a runner in behind would of come off.

Looking on the bright side at least we progressed into the next round.

Usually these sort of games are bankers for the lower league team against us!

Rare for us to progress in either League Cup or FA Cup since we got to the League Cup Final.

Let's take a few positives from the game and move on.
