MY VIEW / OPINION: TODAY CARDIFF TOOK ON WHAT EVERYONE BEL

MY VIEW / OPINION:

TODAY CARDIFF TOOK ON WHAT EVERYONE BELIEVES WILL BE THE WHIPPING BOYS OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP

I still believe QPR will be bottom 5 come May at best.

AM I WORRIED ABOUT CITY / WILL JUDGE IN 12 GAMES.

Ramsey’s returns and as Captain

City’s poor home record continues even under another manager.

But for long periods Cardiff struggled and only came alive once 2nil down, then City looked lively and really took the game to QPR , City’s defence had looked a shambles like last season.

City in the last 15mins were all over QPR and attacked and attacked , BUT TO LITTLE TO LATE.

From the beginning:

City took the game to QPR but as the game went on QPR looked more and more dangerous and after a great save by Alnwick, minutes later QPR tore City apart and scored. City looked No better than last season.
Over all poor first-half by Cardiff.

CARDIFF CITY 1 QPR 2
H-T 0-1
Crowd 21,230
Away 1,068

Cardiff City: Alnwick; Ng, Goutas, McGuinness, O'Dowda; Wintle, Adams; Bowler, Ramsey, Grant; Ugbo.

Subs: Luthra, Simpson, Romeo, Collins, Rinomhota, Tanner, Robinson, R. Colwill, Etete

So many backwards passes from Cardiff. No one controlling the game for them. Wingers haven't got in the game. Just not happening

GOAL! Cardiff City 0-1 QPR (Armstrong 34)

Goal! Armstrong scores!

It's O'Dowda at fault. He tries to let the ball run out of play but Smyth comes around the back of him and nicks the ball. He fires in a low cross and Armstrong has the easiest of tap-ins.

Very poor in the end.

H-T 0-1

54mins Adams went off injured not looking good, Robinson replaced him

61st Min Ramsey hits the crossbar and a minute later Robinson nearly scored.

65th min: City torn apart again unbelievable 0-2
GOAL! Cardiff City 0-2 QPR (Paal 65)
Ramsey gives the ball away and Rangers burst upfield. Goutas dives in with a rash challenge on Armstrong and he drives into the box after skipping past it.
He is calm and finds Paal on the edge of the box - he slots home brilliantly.

72min: Tanner on for Grant

GOAL! Cardiff City 1-2 QPR (Ugbo 79)
Ramsey clips a left-footed cross into O'Dowda at the back post and the wing-back does tremendously well to slide in and square a pass first time. Ugbo is free, with an open goal in front of him, and taps home from five yards out.

83mins

Ramsey replaced by Rubin Colwill

Ugbo off Etete on

Bowler off Collins on

Not good enough. Can't just decide to play after going 2-0 down!! Erol Bulut is going to learn very quickly how tough and unforgiving this league can be.

Last 15 minutes?

Not good enough. In fact very annoying. I'm worried and yes I know its too early to judge but first signs are not good.

I'm worried! It's never too early. We need another 4 or 5 players and quickly.

Like I've said Ian anything better than last season will do me. With freebies and loans I'm expecting nothing much tbh but early doors :bluescarf:

Truly woeful display. Slow, disjointed and no width until Tanner came on. QPR are a very poor side and we gifted them two goals. I didn't understand the over positivity after Leeds last week, they battered us really. Another very long season ahead without new signings but more worrying where was the energy and passion today? That starts with manager. Not acceptable today Erol.

Hope this is a wakeup call to those who thought playoffs are possible. I'm thinking 3+ signing are needed after today.

Our manager just found out what the championship is all about, the teams are so close if you are not at it, you lose.

There is a gaping hole in midfield when the injury prone Joe Ralls isn't starting. Wintle is OK but needs a better partner at the top of the pivot. Adams or Rinonhota are good athletes who get to the ball quickly but don't have a pass in them.

O'Dowda is a midfielder/ attacker not a defender.

NG can not pass to the right, a decent right to left diagonal ball, but that is all.

We'll be OK as we do have goals in the team now, its just finding a system to suit our players

Awful performance
Ramsey showed glimpses but the rest of the new signings looked totally lost
You have the feeling that this team have plenty of moments in them, like what o dowda did today

Gave a 2 goal lead away at Leeds and absolutely battered the second half. Brum beat Leeds today. Struggled to beat a league 2 team and lost to the so called whipping boys of the championship today. Ramsey cannot win games on his own, he is surrounded by poor players. More signings required asap to replace the tripe. Hopefully we can stay around mid table for the January transfer window or we will be in another relegation battle very soon. Please don't lose at home to the Jacks again

For me O’Dowda has to start on the left wing instead of Grant for the next match.

It was blatantly obvious that should have happened at half time.

He changed the game when the switch happened.

Leeds we should of beat them, they are not ready yet, these are the weeks to play them.

I know odowda was the main fault of 1st goal. But a shocking backwards pass by grant led to the ball going out for throw putting us back under pressure in that area of the pitch. When we had possession it was too much sideways and backwards which keeps putting us under pressure in poor areas

I agree and we were much too slow in possession as well.

NG was the main culprit. I think Romeo is a better bet especially going forward

Ng awful, so slow to transition the ball.

Grant and Bowler non-existent.

Goutas looked slow and vulnerable today.

First half was shocking, absolutely shocking.

We'll get nothing next week and then we'll have one point from nine.

Very very worrying.

Never expected us to be world beaters but today was not good until the last 20 minutes. We miss Ralls despite a lot on here saying he is past it & we did hit the crossbar twice so that's a somewhat small bright side. No need to hit the panic button yet like some seem to be doing, the manager needs time to find his best side & the players need the same despite the disappointment of todays result.

So many sloppy mistakes today, misplace passes constantly. Ramsey was good and at least showed some effort also thought tanner and Robinson were both very good when they came on. Grant offers about as much as I would

Same problems as last year.

Slow, sloooooow start again.

Left back ?? Sleeping 1 down

Centre half looked to out his depth today closed down to quickly and finally got caught out for the second goal.

Ramsey poor today and gave the ball away to often.

Midfield ???? Still not right unable to keep the ball for any length of time.

Positives.
Substitutes goal :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: and we could have nicked a draw.

I am afraid its going to be a long AGAIN mid table at best.

I hope I am wrong. :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

So Disappointing... There was no movement up front at all. The ball got stuck 10 yards into the opponents half, and came backwards far far too often.

We dont seem a threat aerially, to often, even late in the second half, Tanner or Ramsey would put the ball into the box with only Etete to aim for.

We are easy to defend againstcut off supply to Bowler, put us on the back foot so our wingers have to defend deeper, and flood the midfield so we cant thread it through.

It is clear we need a CF,an intelligent midfielder who see a pass and a left sided CB that will allow us to play 3 at the back.

Im no manager, and its easy to criticise, if were still playing like this come end of September then it will become very problematic.

Final words on Grant and Tanner. Grant is a good player and can quickly become the butt of the boo boys. Yes, today he was poor, but he was forced to defend, and, in my opinion should be playing in the middle not wide.

Tanner made a difference, because he had the guts to take players on inside and outside. He played with no fear, and took people on. Tanner will get plenty of squad time if he carries on improving.

Ralls is our only genuine old-school "8" who can run, tackle, pass (forward) and shoot, along with Ramsey he can link the midfield and forwards. The boo boys like to compare him with players who specialise in one element

Wintle is a "6" a defensive sitter, but he doesn't have key passes in his repertoire, when Hudson dropped the DCM role he wasn't that good as an old fashioned "8".

The Ralls Wintle combo works, but Ralls has given his body to the championship and the injuries are catching up. So if we need cover its his role or work out another system. Ramsey shouldn't play there as he is not really a championship tackler, he'd be on the treatment table more than the pitch.

Sawyers can link the play but can't run, Adams and Rimonhota can run and tackle all day but don't have a pass in them.

I believe Erol has a system in mind but if we have the players is another matter. I am sure he'll work out whats needed.

Don’t need 3 at the back, just need better players. Too defensive already and not Bulut’s system.

Agree that we do need midfield players that are good on the ball, can retain possession and pick out a pass.

This is spot on. Been saying a CM is badly needed, and probably need two. We need 8’s and depth.

Hopefully there will be some new players in the building before the Leicester game. I’m gutted I missed today (even though we weren’t good enough) my wife broke her bloody leg this morning and I’ve spent all day with her in A&E :banghead: :banghead:

Re: MY VIEW / OPINION: TODAY CARDIFF TOOK ON WHAT EVERYONE

Sat Aug 12, 2023 9:01 pm

I felt we had 2 wife men who just wanted to get inside, neither of them made the full backs weary of the space in behind. As soon as Tanner come on it was completely different, and in fairness Robinson to that effect also

It’s early days, some players from last season but also a lot of new faces again. The sooner Erol decides his best 11 and system the better.

I was impressed with Tanner and Colwill when they came on, kind of got what we always get from Robinson but the two younger ones did better than the rest of the squad in 15 minutes than they did all game.

Lots of wayward passes even Ramsey played a few, we need that sharpness and quick

Re: MY VIEW / OPINION: TODAY CARDIFF TOOK ON WHAT EVERYONE

Sun Aug 13, 2023 10:45 am

Ramsey was frustrated at times with the rest of the team as they kept slowing the game down, when the pace of the game was there QPR couldn’t cope with us. Starting COD at LB is a mistake, would actually be better if Collins started and COD was LW as they were in the last 15 mins, Collins got tight to the winger and stood his ground where as COD likes to push forward as an attacker naturally does then breaks his back recovering.

Robbo needs to start with Rambo too as it frees up more space to roam allowing for Rambo to play , Adams showed glimpses and needs time but everybody seemed to try and find Ramsey, even when he wasn’t going looking for the ball which ultimately slowed the game. Wintle was caught on his heels a few times.

The 2nd goal Koutas went to ground earlier and completely missed the ball and we all saw what happened, he needed to stay in his feet another 10 meters and make it harder to get the cross over, apart from that he had a solid game.

Tanner coming on and going out to the right was refreshing, we had a proper winged attack with Robbo pushing forwards and covering and Rambo actively playing, Wintle sitting behind holding, which also continued when Colwill came on. I’d say that’s the way forward for the squad, think Ugbo would have benefited from those crosses as Etete still seems to come in field too much, he seems much more like a second striker, to play off main striker
