Mehmet Dalman: "I've been meeting a lot with US private equi

Sun Aug 13, 2023 5:50 pm

Mehmet Dalman:

"I've been meeting a lot with US private equity funds and the valuation of football clubs is going through the roof. Americans are determined to come into this market quite heavily," said Dalman.

"I spoke to the owners of Leeds when we were there, and Championship clubs are valued at three times their revenue, give or take.

"Manchester United are going to announce their sale at £7.2bn-7.3bn, which is roughly 10 times their revenue.

"Two or three years ago, we might have been talking about selling Cardiff for about £20m or £30m but now you're going to have to look at £90m or £100m. Valuations [of Championship clubs] have all stretched.

"In terms of the money burned, you have a better chance of getting it back in this environment than you ever have before.

"Over the last two years Vincent became quite depressed at the way results went for us. If we can reawaken this, I think he'll be rejuvenated.

"If we're in the top 10 at Christmas I think you'll see a very interested Vincent Tan. I really hope it happens for him because he deserves to recoup some of his investment.

"Right now, there is no such discussion [about selling Cardiff] but if someone wants to talk to me, come and talk to me.

"We need to succeed on the pitch to get revenue into this football club. There's a feelgood factor about it at the moment. I'm enjoying that."

Vincent’s depression can only be down to one man(not Dai Hunt). More random twaddle from Mehmet. He’s keen, but doesn’t cut it.

This makes me wonder if this is why they priced Sam out of the market.

Sams £100m offer was a good one. So I was surprised when the club went public and told us they are not selling to him. So what is Tan looking for? I honestly can't see it being £200m that has been mentioned in the past. If a US Fund interest is going to pump the value up to £90m then I would expect a top 10 position will increase the value of the club well above that. I don't want to guess what the value would be if we were in the top 6. Its all fairy tale stuff to me just like getting in the top 6.

Say for instance Dalman is correct and there are American investment firms willing to invest £200m into CCFC.

How would that benefit CCFC?

Admittedly Vincent Tan would leave the club (and presumably Dalman) but none of that £200m would end up in CCFC's bank account. Tan and (especially) Dalman would do well out of it as they would pocket a huge pay day.

It would leave us presumably debt free but how much more would an American investment firm be willing to invest season on season? They are in it to make money not provide financial support for a loss-making Football Club.

Personally, I wouldn't want an American investment firm. We need a responsible owner who is willing to invest without necessarily wanting to make money.

Sorry but those days are sadly long gone for the most part particularly in the top 2 divisions, it's all about making money now.

Sadly you are probably right

there is a belief over the pond that the TV companies and fans are under paying by US standards and there is a long term buck to be made by clubs increasing valuation increasing year on year.

for example, Abramovich bought Chelsea for £140 mill and sold it for £4000 mill even though he wasted million upon millions every season.

Not sure how much Vinny bought us for, but say it was £25 mill he'll sell us for a small loss or profit but has had one hell of a journey.

Surprised with the catchment area and stadium and all the cheap money sloshing around in the states we haven't had a hard bid for us.

i would not be surprised if he was meeting US private investors to try and maybe get a consortium going, with him leading it to buy the club. i read about him talking regardian recouping burnt money or something along them lines

Whilst it is still not a greatly well run club, and it's better than the absolute shambles of the last few years. Dalman has certainly put an appearance over the last few months and I think he has certainly trying to go down a better route. Whilst I am not singing his praises I do believe that we should cut him some slack, I think is trying to turn things around, let's see how this goes :bluebird:
