Club meetings with fans

Mon Aug 14, 2023 9:12 pm

Such meetings have been referred to in a number of different post threads , so just to clarify the structure going forward,

The Supporter Liaison Officer (SLO) meetings will continue as they are at present and will primarily deal with travel matters for away games, fan behaviour issues etc.

There will be Fan Parliament meetings twice a year, probably in September and February to follow just after the transfer window periods. These will be for a wide range and large number of fans (applications have already been invited and returned) and will be attended by senior management of the club, including at director level. The purpose of the meetings is to give as many fans as practicable the opportunity to pose questions of club officials but will not be a decision making meeting.

The new format to come will be the Fans Advisory Board, following on from the Fans Led Review of Football paper and the Government White Paper recommendations. The FAB will be made up of representatives of elected fans bodies - the Trust, the Supporters Club and the Disabled Supporters Association but also (and importantly) of a number of fans drawn from the season ticket database. These fans will meet with senior management of the club on a quarterly basis and the club will be obliged to consult with that group on all major decisions the club intends to make and policies it is pursuing.

With regards the Fans Advisory Board, can you clarify the point ref fans being drawn from the season ticket database, is this just a random draw amongst all 14k season ticket holders ?

I had an email asking to rely if interested. I’m assuming everyone that replied then went into a random draw

This is correct, although I'd say 'most' as many, including myself, didn't receive the email...

Further to that and not sure why the change (?) but one of my group was initial sent a 'sorry, not selected' response and later got a 'please come along' email, so is going to attend... :ayatollah:

That is certainly the intention although the exact procedure is yet to be finalised. It is intended to make the selection from all season ticket holders who respond to an invite and state their wish and ability to attend.

Good to see a structured approach, important that we have the right fans representing our fanbase on the advisory board....we have one chance to ensure the fans collective voice is both heard and is allowed to.lead change within our club

Hope those who go have the answers.

Would say the club haven't chosen to do this. They're forced to do it by the new regulations, including the addition of an independent regulator in football.

I'm a Labour man as most on here know! But a lot of respect to the Tory MP, Tracy Crouch, who campaigned a lot for this.

Much needed.

This evening`s meeting was nothing to do with the new proposed regulations , it was just an opportunity for fans to meet in a Q &A format. No obligation on the part of the club to do so.

The Independent Regulator is not yet in place and is not expected to be until the 2024/25 season. In the interim period the Trust is working on the formation of a Fans Advisory Board which will be in place (elected by fans) before the statutory requirement to have one.

Do you actually say anything controversial in these situations or are all the questions scripted?

I suspect you are in a difficult position as you do use stadium facilities outside of match days.

I went and let me tell you now there was no scripting of any kind.Fans there asked whatever they liked. It's true there were no shouting, screeming, social media types, They prefer social media and forums for their conspiracy theories and have problems just talking tidy to people anyway.Someone asked Bulut if he would take any direct interference off Tan regarding team selection, that controversial enough for you.You need to get out more mate.

Mart, thanks for clearing that one up; it seems the event was positive and those in attendance asked relevant questions and in the main received the answers they sought... :ayatollah:

It was honest question, and let me tell you this, I have been to fans forums previously and they have been indeed carefully selected participants, if that’s changed then it’s good to know. What’s puzzles me in this post though it that you’re calling out social media types yet that’s exactly what you’re doing yourself with your last sentence.

I think part of the problem was that in previous meetings the audience was carefully selected and many had to protect tgeir own interests; but that certainly wasn't the case this time where some very pertinent questions were asked... :ayatollah:

Thank you, good answer and I must admit I wasn't aware of that.

Good news is the Q and A with Bulut seemed to go well.

Of course people want answers from executive members of the club but the openness of our manager helps that.

I'm often critical of the club but this sort of communication can be nothing but good and the sort of progress I'm pleased about.

Spot on Chris.

As I said, wasn't there the other night but I seems the right questions were asked.

There have been select groups in the past who won't challenge the club, although to be fair to Keith and the Trust they've been tough on the club the last couple of years - rightly so.

Seems different now and the club are being challenged more. That will happen more when the independent regulator comes in next season.
