Goalkeeper Rúnar Alex Rúnarsson has become our eighth signing of the summer, having joined on a season-long loan from Arsenal, subject to clearance.

The 28-year-old began his career with his hometown club KR Reykjavik, also having spells at Nordsjælland and Dijon prior to moving to Arsenal in 2020 making one appearance in 3 years.

I think this means Allsop might be on his way out! Would command a decent fee too, as he’s not a great shot stopper, but very good with his footwork!

Arsenal have agreed a deal to send Runar Alex Runarsson on loan to Cardiff City on a season-long loan, according to a report.

Mike McGrath of The Daily Telegraph reports that Arsenal have agreed a deal for Runar Alex Runarsson to move on loan to Cardiff City for the 2023/24 campaign.

Runarsson is widely believed to be in the final year of his contract with the Gunners, so unless he signs an extension before leaving, the goalkeeper would become a free agent at the end of the loan.

Cardiff play their football in the Championship, so this could be Runarsson’s first opportunity to play regular football in England.
The 28-year-old made one Premier League appearance for Arsenal, coming off the bench for the final 15 minutes against Wolves in 2021 after the Gunners were reduced to nine men.

But the rest of Runarsson’s Arsenal spell has been spent either on the bench or out on loan.

The goalkeeper spent the 2021/22 season on loan with OH Leuven, making 21 appearances in all competitions. He then joined Alanyaspor for the 2022/23 campaign.

Runarsson caught the eye with a couple of assists in Turkey, and he kept six clean sheets in 32 appearances overall.

He hasn't come to be second fiddle to anyone.

I don't believe Allsop is good enough, he should now be third choice.

But would be harsh on Alnwick if he's dropped for Runnarsson.

Clearly been signed partly because he's very good with the ball at his feet.
