Can’t read the article but 43 in a 30 is not acceptable and way over the speed limit

I got done by a van for doing 30 in a 20 on the way into Whitchurch. No school, absolutely no reason for such a slow speed limit. The Welsh Government doesn’t want people driving. Clueless idiots

More than 10mph over the prescribed will not be offered a course. It will go straight to points and fine...

There preaching it will save lives but 20mph down from a 30mph areas tells us all its about ££££ from us road users nothing more. I get it near schools ect but its going to be an absolute joke soon everywhere.

Don't agree with this blanket 20mph but we all know it's in place so no excuse.

If it were a blanket 20 I’d agree but it changes every street. Ridiculous.

Didn't know that, thought all residential streets were now 20mph.

Rather than quip, respond by defining 'speeding' beyond a manufactured and prescribed limit made by politicians with a vested interest...? :?

It's an often misleading term that varies depending on time of day, conditions, traffic and pedestrian levels, and capabilities of both vehicle (can include bicycles, horses, etc.) and person in (supposed) control...

The variants on each of those are huge and the lazy option is to assume a blanket 'speed limit' labels someone a 'speeder' for exceeding it...

Often the case but not always so...! ;)

I think residential streets are but I wouldn’t class the road by the Philog, leading into Whitchurch (by the common) as purely residential and personally don’t see the need for 20mph

I’m just frustrated due to the complete lack of real reasons they are bringing this in. I could stomach it more if they said, “it’s to make money”

The blanket 20 limit comes into force on 17th September. At the moment it's a bit hit and miss which I think is a bit unfair and confusing. Going through Llandaff North its 20, then over the bridge up to the Llantrisant Rd roundabout it's 30, then 20 through Llandaff and then 30 on Western Ave. It's no wonder people get caught out.
I don't think they should be dishing out fines until its 20 everywhere. Even then, there should be a few mi the grace.

Thanks for the clarification, just shows how unclear it all is.

And if 30 mph is to be seen as “speeding” then they better change the name to “snailing”

My understanding is no 'fines' until late next year? Prior to that, I'm sure I read it will be letters inviting transgressors to a local 'speed awareness' course...

Of course, it could well be that the +10 mph limits might well be enforced but the camera team are goin to be very busy, if they think they can cover ever street plus their regular cash traps...

Re: Speeding fine

In this respect Wales is a laughing stock. Far as I know the push for increased use of public transport has already hit another sticky patch due to this ridiculous speed restriction - Newport buses have apparently had to reduce some services due to it!

WAG are completely anti car but don't have a fully functioning VFM public transport infrastructure to encourage reduction in private car use.

Ironically pollution likely to increase with 20 mph restriction along with vehicle wear and tear because you'll be constantly shifting up and down between 3rd and 2nd gears! WAG = staggeringly incompetent talking shop / nanny state dictatorship.

Unfortunately it won't change as Labour have a closed shop in most of Wales with guaranteed generational voting.

Just for balance though I agree with nationalised TFW and Dwr Cymru being not for profit.

Ah well, at least we’re free of England. That despised place that bankrolls Wales.

We all know the rules, so no excuses if you get a speeding fine. I presume it's all well sign posted. it should be.
I'm sure i read that reducing the speed limit in built up areas to 20 mph reduces road deaths significantly.

I’m pretty sure that it does mate but if that is the case why don’t we have 15 or 10 mph limits? Or maybe just have bicycles?
Sorry, but I can’t see the sense in it other than near schools and heavily built up areas. Wales will be like a theme park before long.

The article is about the amount of cars caught by Culvehouse Cross Tesco as the signs were still up at 40 and the camera was set to 30 before the signs were changed

The chances of being killed at 30mph is around 20%
The chances of being killed at 20mg go down to around 2.5% apparently.

To go at 15 or 10mph or ‘bicycles’ is just being silly.

I was being ‘silly’ but I’d like to see the stats on pedestrians killed on roads that have 30mph that aren’t in built up areas or near schools (which I did say I agreed with).

How about putting some personal responsibility on people not to walk in the road putting themselves at risk? If we mitigated against any possibility of someone getting hurt or injured we’d all stay in bed rocking back and forth.

Re: Speeding fine

Can anyone cite any actual research that proves that reducing all 30mph speed limits to 20mph improves air quality? If not, why are people going along with this? Also, as for all those saying "it's the law"... you don't ALWAYS have to follow the law if it's a 'bad' law. Anyone remember the Poll Tax riots?

Wait till pavement parking becomes illegal sept next year in Wales.

Riots in the streets.

All streets to be assess if emergency vehicles can't get through double yellow lines installed on one or both sides of the Street with residents being told park somewhere else??? Wtf

Valley towns no parking ?????

Or worse parking on one side of the street. Residents will defo kick off.

How will the Police manage this?

Ican see that happening, as it has been talked about....

Pavement parkers often impede to 'safe route' for children and the disabled and I would support actions taken where the vehicles/owners are taken to task when they have driveways or other off-road facilities but are too lazy or ignorant to use them...

Then we have the streets with no parking facilities available. What happens there? Can the Council provide such spaces in the vacinity (very unlikely) and would people walk the extra few yards to use them (also unlikely)?

It's a conundrum of some size... :ayatollah:
