Erol Bulut tells Romaine Sawyers he is free to leave Cardiff City and urges defender to find new club or his 'career will be finished'

The Bluebirds boss spoke about outgoings ahead of next Friday's transfer deadline

Erol Bulut has told Romaine Sawyers he is free to leave Cardiff City because he is too good of a player to sit on the bench for a season.

Sawyers had an up-and-down campaign last year, producing quality moments in some matches but then he also struggled for large periods, too.

The midfielder has not been involved in any of the club's Championship games but started in the League Cup win over Colchester United.

Cardiff have recently signed Manolis Siopis to add to the depth in that midfield area, which also includes Ebou Adams, Ryan Wintle, Joe Ralls and Andy Rinomhota at present.

At 31, Bulut believes Sawyers has quality to offer his next club.

"I had a conversation with him and I was clear with him and I will not hide it here, he was in the national team, came back and had one game. We now have many players in midfield so I told him for his good he should go try to find a club," Bulut said of Sawyers.

"If he does not get minutes here at the age of 31 it would be best if he takes a look at another club to leave, to play at least another four or five years as he is planning to play to at least 35/36.

"He has spoken to his agent I think he is trying. He will find something because he is a good player, he is a very good player."

There will likely be more outgoings before the deadline, too. One player who was signed a year ago from Leicester City, Vontae Campbell, has not been including in any squads for the senior side or the under-21s.

His transfer has simply not worked out. He has played just one Championship game, against Coventry City last season, and one Carabao Cup game, in which he got sent off against Portsmouth almost exactly a year ago.

Bulut hopes, for the player's sake, that he makes the right decision to move away in the next week, rather than sit out the last year of his contract.

"We tried to give him a loan or permanent signing, but from his side and his agent's side, nothing is coming. I don't know what they think," the manager said.

"For me it's not good for him to stay here and to sit and let the days pass. He is a young player and he has to play football. In his interest, he has to leave to play football, he cannot just sit here for the next year, otherwise his career will be finished.

"He is not playing, he is sitting only to earn the money. I don't know what he's thinking. I gave him good advice, telling him to go and play football, not just to sit and watch."

No surprise on Sawyers. A good player but his legs have gone. Can see him doing a job at decent league ond team though. Vontae-Campbell was an utterly dreadful signing and his attitude says it all. What a clown. Hope his career is finished if he wont entertain playing on loan.

Campbell's attitude is obviously awful. Bulut clearly really pissed off with him.

We have had too many players just picking up the money contributing nothing ..Tomlin for example.

Spot On

Campbell has played more games in 1 year for England u18s than his entire senior career to date.

The guy needs to buck his ideas up by the look of things. Compare that to etete who is a year younger and has played 65 senior games.
