How do you solve a problem like Ugbo?

Sat Aug 26, 2023 7:14 pm

Hes a striker, and scores. He also does very little else.

Ive been on this forum saying that if he scores, he has to stay in the team, however, the fact he doesnt hold the ball up that well, means we are continually being pushed back under pressure.

Have you known a City player to contribute so little yet be so prolific?

This is not a criticism... but does he play and get a goal or should he be benched, allowing a better player to hold the ball up and bring midfield into play?

I mean, if he was benched, came on with 20 or so, and continued his knack of getting goals, he'd be the new David Fairclough super sub...

Kaba, last season.

Yet some people on here speak about Kaba like he's prime Wayne Rooney.

You don’t, you leave him on and he scored goals.

Not for me. Kaba scored goals but was also stronger on the ball and much more of an aerial threat than Ugbo.

In fairness to Ugbo though he was asked to play on the wide right today and like Grant playing on the left I think both would prefer to play centrally up front.

Certainly seems to have the knack of being in the right place at the right time to get a goal.

Kaba did very little too
If a striker is scoring,he needs to stay in the team for me

Haaland only touched the ball twice in Man City's opening game against Burnley and scored twice. Doubt Pep considered dropping him

For me Ugbo needs to stay in the team as long as he continues scoring.

How many striker have we had over the past 10 years with his record?

Moore, I cant think of anyone else?

3 in 4 games is a great stat, if he continues he will get double figures this season

How can you even compare the two but I get your point.

He seems to be in the right place right time but like the op said he scores which is what we expect most.

Although I don't rate him at all bar the above said and for me he offers nothing else yet we can't moan because that's what we expect from a striker most of all its just the inbetween we are missing :bluescarf:

The whole point of a striker is to score goals, if he’s scoring goals everything else is a bonus. It’s difficult enough getting a striker in the championship that scores goals consistently, if he had all the other attributes you want he’ll be moving to a bigger club in January.

I get your point as I don't think Ugbos overall play is good but strikers get judged on goals scored

If he's scoring then it would be stupid to not start him

Especially when Etete, Grant, Robinson and Meite currently have 0 league goals between them

He’s heading for 30+ goals at this rate.. let the players handle the pressure.

Goals count and Ike Ugbo certainly knows where the net is; enough said... :ayatollah:

That finish on Saturday was a great strikers goal.. he's definitely got the killer instinct. Some players dont have the energy and drive others may have. Why Ian Rush was a top level player.

The opposite is having a striker that buzzes around like a blue arse fly but doesn't score. Sounds familiar
