Game management

Sun Aug 27, 2023 7:30 am

Great win yesterday much needed to boost confidence but we need to manage the game better. In that spell after our goal Sheffield were dominant we sat back and tried to hit on the break,we should have broken up play more by feigning injury or taking turns to foul lots if teams do it and that's what stops their momentum. Opinions.

Agree.
Their goal was coming for 10 mins.
Ugbo was shot then, we needed subs.

Not savvy at all on the pitch, like rabbits in headlights when we were under pressure.....

We do seem to retreat and 'sit' on a lead. We need to be more ruthless but I'll take the 3 points...! :ayatollah:

Seems to be the common theme everybody took from the match. Like we took our foot off rather than them being brilliant. I think the gaffer is well aware of this.

Agree with all of these comments. Easy to say it from the stands but when we went 1-0 up Owls heads dropped and you could see that.

So, it's then you'd expect a professional team to go for the throat and get a 2nd goal to kill any potential turn around by the opposition. It was a pity O'Dowda missed that chance because that may well have killed off Wednesday.

It dud appear to me that our boys thought they had the game won at 1-0 which is a bit naive and history tells us we've come unstuck many times by sitting back.

Agree that subs ought to have been made sooner. Ideally we get a striker who's cute and knows how to hold the ball up.

Alternatively, at 1-0, if the players can't keep the ball, switch tactics, don't invite pressure by insisting on playing out from the back - just go long for a spell, clear the danger until the opposition run out of ideas / steam. Better game management required at the right times.

Early days let's judge the teams game management in 4 weeks time ,many new faces so it will take a while before they can anticipate each others movements.
