BLUEBIRD 2023/24 EARLY ASSESSMENT

We all know its too early to judge because players and manager need time to bed in etc.. but after making the long trek down from North Wales for my first game this this year, here (for what they are worth) are a few thoughts…..


Positives
•Team spirit
•Most of the team put in a decent shift (thats the minimum I expect)
•Siopis worked really hard, played well (despite some misplaced passes) and looks a good buy.
•Tanner and Etete are young and and promising and will hopefully have more of a role to play over the season
•Bulut appears to be his own man and wont put up with shirkers


Negatives
•Against an (at best) we had no shots on target first half
•I don’t mind playing out from the back but we did it every time in the first half and mainly without success. Mc Guiness and
Goutas (who played well 2nd half) are not what you’d call natural football playing centre halves.
•IMHO, we need more pace in the team and the front two didnt link together well (that may develop).


Conclusion
The jury is out on several of the new players but time will tell. Collins, for example, is clearly a skilful player but he was ball watching and not marking his man too often.

As I say, too early too judge but for me at this early stage, it appears that we won’t be challenging for promotion but we should avoid the drop.

Another way of looking at City 2023/24 is that Bulut (Baloo) has enough to survive in the Championship jungle and maybe, if things go well(!), in January VT will invest

One positive thing of this team. We're not struggling for goals this season like last (we've scored in all games so far) . Just need to sort defence out

To be fair, some decemt points but way too early for such an assessment...
