“This is the Strongest Squad I have been involved in”Says

Rubin was involved in two of the three goals tonight, and the Welsh international certainly enjoyed the style of play the team was playing.

Beginning by discussing his goal, Rubin said: “I knew once Karlan had the ball that he would beat his man, so for me it was all about getting into a good position, focus on getting a good connection on the ball, and thankfully I did that.

RUBIN COLWILL:

“It was really nice to play some really good football and we all had such a good understanding of when to play the ball, when to carry it and everything. That second goal summed up the way we played tonight. Spraying the ball across the pitch, going up one-on-one with the opponent and a good finish from Wintle.”

Manager Erol Bulut experimented with a new formation, and Colwill thoroughly enjoyed playing in the interesting tactic.

“The formation allows us to be freer, more fluid, allows us to move about and change positions. We were able to move their players about when we were out of possession and that allowed us to create more space, and it was enjoyable to play in.”

With two games in the cup under his belt and a handful of appearances in the league, it’s been a good start for Rubin. He’s now hoping he can push himself and get to the next level.

“I’m really enjoying training and I love that I’m getting better every game,” Rubin continued. “I’m trying to push the boys that are starting, and that creates good competition across the whole squad. With Aaron Ramsey in there, there’s not much I can do to be honest! But I’ll keep trying my best and try to get some more appearances in the side.

“I had a really good pre-season and did a lot of work on my body. Throughout my career I’ve had an issue with my toe, but it’s settled down and that allowed me to work a lot over the summer. Hopefully it won’t return soon, and I can keep playing in the team.

There were ten changes in the squad for tonight’s game, but even with all the changes, City still became the first side to beat Birmingham City in competitive action this season. Colwill believes big things are to come from this City team.

“This is the strongest squad I’ve been involved in. We saw that tonight depth wise. Birmingham are a Championship team and we’ve blown them out the water. It shows the strength in depth and the quality we have in the squad this season. Hopefully we can make the most of it and we get better every day in training, and we can keep doing what we’re doing.”

So nice to hear such positivity coming from the squad. Bulut has high expectations and demands and it’s great to see.

He was outstanding again! He won’t get in the team in front of Ramsey if Ramsey is fit, but if Ramsey needs a break, dare I say it Rubin could do it!

Great to hear players totally buying into the managers/coaches philosophy :bluebird:

Huge difference this season from the last few years

For the last 3/4 years the fringe players have come in and played these early season cup games and inevitably we have put in dire performances against lower division teams and nobody has done themselves justice

Probably the whole team from last night have put themselves in the reckoning to be in the squad for Saturday and the youngsters have got some experience and a win under their belts

Completely Different atmosphere around the club at the moment :ayatollah:
