Can we sign them now and, if so, can they play for us before January.
I see Morelos (ex Rangers) is a free agent

I'm not sure how it works tbh I know a few years back you could sign a goalkeeper on emergency cover if you only had 1 fit keeper or something like that after the window had shut but now the rules probably changed

If they are free agents during the transfer window, they can be signed and play.

I always believed any free agents can be signed anytime as long they became free agents prior to the window closing

On 14 February 2023, Championship club Cardiff City signed Wickham until the end of the season.

Was just thinking if, say for example, kieffer Moore paid to have his contract terminated.
Could he then play for us immediately or would he have to wait till January

I believe if a player has is contract terminated during this period, he cannot join another club until next Jan.

I think termination of contract has to take place before the window closure for that player to be elidgle. Only genuine free agents at the closure time.

Portsmouth boss delivers update on Ronan Curtis signing as Cardiff City, Bristol City and Blackburn Rovers linked winger accelerates return -
John Mousinho believes Ronan Curtis can still have a Pompey future.
And the Blues boss feels contract talks with the Republic of Ireland international can be revisited as his injury return progresses well.
Curtis is ahead of schedule on the comeback trail from an anterior cruciate ligament injury picked up against Bolton in February.
The 27-year-old is now a free agent after turning down significantly redacted terms as he recovers from injury.
This is a latest example of a Free Agent - Linked to certain Clubs .

Bulut quizzed on free agents -
Erol Bulut has distanced himself from talk of signing free agents outside of the transfer window and instead insists he will back the players currently at his disposal until January.
The manager signed nine players in his first summer as Bluebirds boss, however he did so with one arm tied behind his back owing to the club's ban on paying fees for players, which will be over in the new year.
But Bulut has also spoken about balancing the books, too, with Cardiff understood to have upped player wages since last season.
Asked if it was right to assume that Cardiff would not dip into the free agent market, Bulut replied: "Right now, yes. What else can we do? OK, maybe we can take players who are on the free agent market, but then we have to look at the other side - the finance. Right now, we are unlucky with this.
"But I have full belief and trust in my players, so I continue to work with them and make good things. They have done very positive things in the last five matches.
"In a few actions, defensively, we were unlucky, so this luck we have to change to our side. But we can change it only by working."
