Did The Manager Cost Us The Game Today?

Sat Sep 02, 2023 5:22 pm

No sense in pulling Tanner at half time, he was doing ok wide right. Radio Wales saying the manager wasn't happy with his
performance? If anyone was deserving of that shepherds crook it was Meite, who again cost us with that glaring miss from just 5 yards out.
More especially puzzling was the introduction of Ugbo wide right? We all know how poor he was against Wednesday in that positition, so why bring him on there?
The switch and switch again in formation to a back three, moving Grant over to the right when he was doing ok with Collins over on the left. We went from super comfortable first half in control, to looking very disjointed second half.
No knee jerk reaction but thinking back that's where our troubles started today, we should have at least grabbed a point.
Onwards :bluebird:

Absolutely agree. I do think today buck stops with the manager

Totally agree. The subs and tactics from half time onwards were shocking.

No, a couple of fortunate rebounds and awful defending by Collins cost us.

We'll beg to differ there...and put Ugbo on in his place?

Yes I agreed with that substitution and also when he changed the system after they got their first goal.

So Ugbo wide right is our answer, and after going 2 up the manager's tactics were spot on?

I'm saying I agreed with the decisions at the time.

I'm not saying it worked, because it obviously didn't.

Couldn't really follow the game much today but was gutted to see us give up a 2 goal lead and lose, just gutted. I've read lots of comments on here tonight and it defo seems to me that the manager ultimately lost us the game today. 2 nil up and cruising in the 2nd half and then he tinkered.

I know 2 of the Ipswich goals were lucky and I know Meite missed yet another sitter...but had he not tinkered we may have stayed in control and got the 3 points.

I think the problem is that he's completely underestimated just how brutal this league is. He's tinkered quite a bit so far, perhaps he's a fan of in game rotation and maybe you can get away with this in Turkey...but u gotta tread way more carefully in the championship (think of how little Warnock tinkered - even when comfortably winning).

I reckon though that Bulut is a good and very astute manager and I think he'll work all this out for himself soon enough. I just hope us fans stay with him and those upstairs stay cool. He'll get this right and I'm sure we'll click eventually but he needs time to learn all about this league. If he's still cocking about 23 games in by all means hound him out but until then, let's be patient and give him our support!

Man I wish we'd signed Batth though!!!!

Why would you have withdrawn Tanner? What did he do wrong? And would you have publicly said you were disappointed with him when there were others who were more at fault?

Managers subs and change of tactics cost us today. I was optimistic going into the derby but not now. Why change something that’s clearly working?

The manager didn't single him out, he was asked a question and answered it.
