A forum for all things Cardiff City

Of course like everyone I am starting to form an opinion and of course it is only right to wait till sometime between end September and mid October before answering questions properly .
It is still early ….but my preliminary concern is : “can Bulut read the game as it is unraveling ?”.
A manager needs to clearly see where the weakness and strength of the opposition lies and where our weakness and strength lies as the game progresses .
Based on this he may : (1) change tactics (2) make substitutions .
My preliminary thinking is that this may be a real weakness ….. but it is too early to say.
In most of our 5 games (I take no real notice of cup games ….which do not involve our or the opposition’s best teams) I think his performance leaves a lot to be desired .
Again I stress it is still very early days .

Annis,
I’m going to stick to the 10-12 matches before I make an opinion. It’s still too early and yes somethings seem strange on the field!
However he’s still learning himself and being new to Wales, City, Club and us!
We’ve certainly looked much better passing the ball and actually look very good in parts. Some of the players we signed were all at different stages of fitness which hasn’t helped.
At least he’s making decisions which is what we didn’t get all last season when we could see changes needed to be made.
He won’t get it right every time and neither will we ha ha.
Therefore I will give him the required time and hope like you it all comes together.

Karl,
I actually like Bulut as a person and his press conferences, but something is not right?
Like you I am going to stick to 12 games to judge an opinion.

Its been a complete overhaul of the squad with a lot of new faces in the team, it will take time for them to gel and also for existing players to let go of the way they have been told to play in the last few seasons.
What I take away so far is that the squad is the best we've had for a while, all with an embargo on us so I take that as a big positive
We've been playing better football in general so I'll take that as a positive
Sitting back consistently when we are in commanding positions is highly frustrating, we've been doing that for as long as I can remember and I can only put it down to the players maybe not having the fitness to press for a full 90?
Overall I'm happy enough at this stage, there's value in giving Bulut time, we've seen what can happen to clubs when they swap out their managers too frequently, let's hope the board realise this and don't act too quickly
Mon Sep 04, 2023 9:21 am
Annis like yourself I think it’s just too early to make a definitive opinion of the team and manager
However, early signs are quite promising and the team is playing much better football than the dross served up over the last few years
It’s not perfect and the fact we have dropped so many points from winning situations is obviously a worry, but in fairness the fact we were in those winning positions in the first place is a huge plus point
What we also have to remember is this is the championship and as we all now NOTHING is straightforward in the championship. Some of the results on Saturday emphasised this point perfectly
Experienced players and managers often get it wrong in the championship so I think we definitely need to cut Bulet some slack and let’s see how we are doing come Xmas time
Mon Sep 04, 2023 9:26 am
I have concerns this is the 3rd time in five games we have thrown away an advantage. I remember when it happened with Warnock , when we let goals after the away team used to score after we took corners. Neil was fuming and stated players would be dropped if they did not follow instructions. That cut it out. The new manager needs to get those instructions out.

Personally I think with the transfer restrictions we had bulut has done great. We’ve signed players we’ve actually heard of on free transfers or loans. Remember the style of play is changing from the dross we’ve been watching the last few seasons to a much more easier on the eye style of play (which we’ve not really seen since Jones was here) . As stated above players are on different fitness levels. They need time to get land previous players need to get the old style out of their playing habits. Expectations also I think need to be realistic. We can’t expect to compete with the teams that have come down or any of the other teams with a lot of money. I just didn’t see a promotion challenge realistic this season I think mid table season will be a good season taking into account transfer restrictions and where we were last season.
Mon Sep 04, 2023 10:01 am
I will stick to giving him 18 games before making a definitive view.
I like his honesty and the way the squad has been transformed but have the same concerns as many others over game management.
I have a feeling he is going to come good as is the squad .
Mon Sep 04, 2023 10:07 am
Although it too early to make an opinion you can start forming one.
The obvious thing that sticks out for me is the fitness levels. Huffing and puffing after 60 minutes is very worrying. That takes time to fix. i just hope we are not in a big hole by the time this is fixed.

I am confident we'll be mid table or above.
Nobody was moaning when we were 2-0 up against a team many have backed for the top six.

Who is moaning now Ned???
Explain fans are allowed to talk their views on here, Tans Dictatorship has stopped.
Are we not allowed to discuss matches or tactics??
We are allowed to discuss why we keep giving up leads and why we keep losing the points.
Correct why would you loan if two nil up, but if you keep surrendering it, even Bulut is trying to work it out and is concerned.
You might not be concerned, but others are including our manager , that is not moaning.
I just looked back and you made at least a dozen posts fully backing Morison and fans were not patient enough, let fans be allowed to have their opinions, that’s what a forum is for.
It’s about Opinions Ned , OPINIONS:
If you read the topic it’s asking many questions for fans to discuss things they think.
We are not a Dictatorship.

Sept even Oct is too early. I will judge Xmas and expect we will see improvement in results by then. It takes time to settle so let's get behind Bulut and players. Mid table Xmas will be acceptable then we could spend money if there is any?
Mon Sep 04, 2023 11:48 am
For me as it’s always been, 12 League games , a few cup games and 9 friendlies you can usually tell which direction we are going in.
I think that’s fair.
Especially being in charge then for over 4 months.
Mon Sep 04, 2023 11:55 am
Some fans can’t accept what happened, Bulut made some wrong decisions, costly , we move on to the next game

Didn't mean that to sound like it did, and wasn't on about this specific post or what you've said.
Was more talking about posts from the weekend that some that have said we're not a good team and nothing has changed from last season - when that clearly isn't right. I doubt they were moaning when we were 2-0 up.
It is all about opinions and I'll respect all opinions, apart from the ones I've mentioned that are just plain wrong.
I was as disappointed as anyone when we threw away the lead, I'm of the opinion that it was more down to individual mistakes and a couple of fortunate rebounds that cost us rather than the manager. I know many people disagree.
I always say that if you're playing well in the first 5-6 games then you can take positives from that, even if you're not winning many games at this stage. I believe we are playing very well.
Having said that, we need to turn these performances into wins after the break.
I would if we beat Swansea then this game will be forgotten. Problem is we have two weeks now to reflect on this game.
Our first three away games of this season have been three of the toughest in most people's eyes - Leeds, Leicester and Ipswich. We have come out of these games with one point when it could easily have been seven or at least six.
But like I say, now we need to start winning games. If we continue to play well and not win for the next six, then it will be time for real concern.
But I still have full faith in the manager.
As for Morison, yes I did back him. I believed he earned the chance to have time after keeping us up the season before. Happy to admit I was very wrong about him and I'll admit I'm wrong if it doesn't work out with Bulut.
Mon Sep 04, 2023 4:04 pm
Got to stick with him we 100% need some sort of on going continuity , we are miles better on the field with our play than last season and actually scoring ? , we have changed our playimg style which will take time ,Once this team gels we will go on a decent run Leeds Leicester and ipswich away are probably the hardest teams to play in the championship .we were better than ipswich and Leicester and should of been out of sight 5 nill up before they scored there 1st ,top 10 finish for us I predict .
Mon Sep 04, 2023 5:29 pm
A rebuild can sometimes take a couple of years.. Managers are always judged by their records anyway.
Considering that aside from a financial irregularity at Reading, we’d be playing in Lge 1 now.

Wez No one is saying get rid of him, I am def not saying it,
But we as fans can talk about the matches, the players and what we think went wrong.
Mon Sep 04, 2023 5:42 pm
Venting after a game is just that venting....
He has had 5 real games and been in the lead against decent clubs, we have gone seasons with always chasing games as we could not score.
https://www.globalfootballrankings.com/ rate the championship one place above the Turkish super lig so this isn't such a big jump, but i reckon the spread of top to bottom is a lot tighter in the championship than Turkey.
If he insists on getting a lead then sitting back then he needs to drill the team a lot better than what we have seen do far.
He seems a bright bloke he'll suss it.
Mon Sep 04, 2023 5:53 pm
We are very close to being a good side, one of the best in my opinion.
Weve had alot of bad luck. Ball bouncing to players feet at ipswich. Late goals etc. Silly errors.
Once we get this out our system (with 2 new defenders aswell) we are going to be hard to beat.
I honestly feel bulut could become one of our best managers. If given time.

Ned,
I want Bulut to do well, I honestly believe he’s the best since Warnock.
Mon Sep 04, 2023 6:03 pm
I'll echo that - I want every City manager to be successful here and hope Bulut is the one for some time to come.
Mon Sep 04, 2023 6:46 pm
I believe he is very good as a coach but poor on maintaining a lead, his substitutions to date have been letting him down, and instead of criticising a player publicly he should have done it in the dressing room.
When the reporter enquired why he subbed Tanner he should have said I wanted to try something different but unfortunately it back fired on me, but you can be assured I will learn from it. It would have been clear to a more experienced manager that the reporter was surprised about the substitution and he needed to be alert to that type of question.
That is my only complaint about him though.,because player wise and with the embargo I think he has done extremely well.

At last, a lot of common sense posted on this thread. I believe we have the makings of a very good team and I'm still excited for the new season. Yes, losing a 2 goal lead twice already this season is very difficult to take. Even being in that position, playing some of the best football over the past 3 years was unexpected particularly against that calibre of team away from home.
Bulut has helped attract some exciting talent here. He will make mistakes, but we need to give him a year to include a transfer window where we are not hamstrung in just bringing in freebies.
Keep the faith.
