SUNDERLAND v CARDIFF CITY
Sunday 24th September, 3pm
Sky Bet Championship
Stadium of Light

Cardiff City: Alnwick; Ng, Goutas, McGuinness, Collins; Wintle, Siopis, Ralls (c), Meite, Grant, Ugbo

Subs: Runarrson, Panzo, Romeo, Adams, Rinomhota, Tanner, R. Colwill, Etete, Robinson

Pay on the day for both clubs :bluebird:

This game is being played on Sunday because the Stadium of Light is hosting an England women's game on Friday and the stadium needs an extra 24 hours to prepare for this game - it is NOT live on Sky Sports.

TEAM NEWS:

Ramsey is back after just testing him confirmed Bulut.

While Bowler and O'Dowda could still miss the trip to the Stadium of Light, Bulut confirmed Ramsey would be there to pull the strings again after being rested against the Sky Blues.

Stadium of Light

The Stadium of Light is the 9th biggest stadium in England, with a capacity of 49,000.

The record attendance was 49,353 for a game against Liverpool in 2002.

The stadium was opened in 1997. It has also hosted matches for the England U21 and women's teams.

The Opposition's Manager

Tony Mowbray was appointed Black Cats manager last summer.

He did a great job last season as they finished 6th and reach the play-offs in their first season back in the Championship.

They have also made a strong start to this season.

He has previously managed Ipswich, Hibernian, West Brom, Celtic, Middlesbrough, Coventry and Blackburn.

Opposition Dangerous Players

Jack Clarke had nine goals and 12 assists in the league last season. He already has three league goals this campaign.

They have signed Mason Burstow on loan from Chelsea, which looks a good signing.

Head To Head

We have won three of our last five meetings against Sunderland, with them winning the other two.

In our last game against them, they beat us 1-0 at CCS in the Championship in April. We beat them 1-0 at their stadium earlier in the season, in November.

Team News - Predicted Line-Ups

Sunderland: Patterson, Hume, O'Nien, Ballard, Huggins, Neil, Ekwah, Bellingham, Ba, Clarke, Burstow

Cardiff City: Alnwick, Ng, McGuinness, Goutas, Collins, Siopis, Ralls, Ramsey, Meite, Grant, Ugbo

Last Game

We beat Coventry 3-2 on Tuesday, making it back to back wins since the international break after winning against Swansea last Saturday.

Sunderland beat Blackburn away 3-1 on Wednesday, after they won at QPR on Saturday.

Match Odds

Sunderland - 10/11
Cardiff City - 3/1
Draw - 12/5

This is a tough test as last season & this season Sunderland play some really good football I was shocked they did not do better at the end of last season and we turned them over at the stadium of light last season which was a shock.

Still think our defence and midfield will have a hard test on Sunday

Sunderland continued their strong start to the season tonight with a 3-1 win at Blackburn.

They're up to 4th, with us in 10th.

We will be quietly confident as a team/squad after the last couple of results and given the extra days rest we gain over them I can only see another positive result come Sunday :bluebird:

A point will do me tbh there good at home so I'll take that and be very happy. If we win up there even better but just can't see it tbh as they won 5 nil vs Southampton last home game and just won the last two games away :bluescarf:

Rambo back for Sunderland

Erol Bulut has confirmed that Aaron Ramsey will be back in contention for the Bluebirds' trip to Sunderland this Sunday.

Cardiff are two from two and would love to extend that record to three in three. What was impressive about the win against Coventry last night was that they scored three goals without three crucial attacking players in Ramsey, Josh Bowler and Callum O'Dowda.

While Bowler and O'Dowda could still miss the trip to the Stadium of Light, Bulut confirmed Ramsey would be there to pull the strings again after being rested against the Sky Blues.

Erol Bulut:

“Aaron was rested because he had had a problem with his adductor muscle when he was away with the national team and he felt it again against Swansea,” said Bulut.

“I couldn’t risk him getting any more injuries, but he’ll be back for Sunderland on Sunday."

As the name suggests, I have popped on here for friendly debate not to get involved in any arguments. I also enjoy chatting or meeting opposition fans to get a good idea of how they think their team is playing and if they are visiting Sunderland to answer any questions about parking, pubs and so on.

I will start by responding to one comment in an earlier post saying we are strong at home, actually we are stronger on the road . Last season we were only 16th on home form with 7 wins and 30 points. Away from home we were 4th with 11 wins and 39 points.

You’re better off making a new thread where it will be seen by more posters here mate.

The mods will probably make it a ‘sticky’ where it stay at the top of the list of threads.

Sunderland boss: Cardiff are a 'top, top team' -

Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray has challenged his team to extend their winning run to four matches against "top team" Cardiff.

The Bluebirds go into the match having won two on the bounce, but the Black Cats, who defeated Blackburn Rovers 3-1 last night, have three successive victories to their name. Mowbray wants them to go one further, but thinks it'll be a tough ask against a Cardiff team currently riding the crest of a wave.

“The team are functioning alright”, Mowbray said. “I have just said how difficult it is to win three on the bounce in the Championship.

“It is really, really difficult. I have just challenged them there about can we do four on the bounce on Sunday. Our biggest danger for that game will be ourselves, really.

“We have to turn up and make sure we are right at it, as if we are playing a top, top team and Cardiff, I think have won back to back games now as well so they will be on a high.

Cardiff take on Sunderland at 3pm on Sunday.

That ground was the site of the old Monkwearmouth Colliery. Like us, should have stayed at the old place. Great club Sunderland. Remember 1980 down here.. electric.

They brought 10,000 fans that day, I was there.

Crowd was about 17,000.

Also your right Roker Park was a special ground.

For our side of things, it looks like we will same squad available as Wednesday with the addition of the Ukrainian striker we signed on the last day of the transfer window but we have had to wait until now to get the visa and international clearance sorted, so he might be on the bench.

So it means we will be without Ekwah who has been outstanding at the end of last season and the start of this one and Dack.

The questions Mowbray will have to answer is to keep Ba on the right or bring Roberts back. A difficult choice Ba has done very well since he replaced Roberts, who himself is an outstanding player who help Amex so much last season. Ironically in the last couple of games when Roberts has come on he has worked very well with Ba but there is not room for both.

The other decision will be how long can Jobe, who was 18 today can keep going without a rest, he has started every game so far.

My guess is that we will be unchanged, but Mowbray has form for picking a team to beat at the opposition, so if he has sported something in your set up he could make several changes.

Cardiff City have the long haul to the north-east England for their next two Championship games - and goalkeeper Jak Alnwick's family could not be happier.

The Bluebirds head to Sunderland on Sunday, and their next league away game is at Middlesbrough on 3 October.

But Newcastle-born Alnwick. a former Sunderland academy player, will not be short of support despite the six hundred mile round trip for both.

"It's nice we have got Sunderland and Middlesbrough coming up," he said.

"My dad gets to as many games as possible. But coming down to Cardiff is a good six-hour drive so it's not as easy for him to come down here."

The Alnwicks are no strangers to Sunderland. Jak's brother Ben, an England Under-21 international, was on the club's book for three years and made 19 appearances before leaving for Tottenham Hotspur in 2007.

But the Cardiff stopper says his family are "full Newcastle" and he left Sunderland for the Toon academy as a teenager.

"I switched at 15, it was closer to the family home. Sunderland was a bit of a trek, my dad was working long hours and having to take me over to Sunderland. It was more of a family decision to be honest."

A tough away game for sure and against a side who are 5th and with a great manager. I've watched us away against the top sides this season and if we had managed games properly (Leeds, Leicester, Ipswich etc) and not switched of for a few secs (oh, and that out of character shape change v Ipswich) we actually could have came away with points from them all, played well in them all so no reason not to repeat and improve again today to eliminate those errors.

I really shouldn't have written this as I'll now jinx it.

Problem is you are quite right, mate. Sunderland have the edge on stats but we've made our own look worse with a few schoolboy errors, so I see us taking something from the game; likely a scoring draw and I'd be happy with that (pre-game) in the grander scheme...

We need to manage games better when we are in front; but no matter what happens today, it has been a very good week and one we must build on... :ayatollah:

Erol Bulut seems very astute and says he has had to change his own mind-set, which shows his intelligence...

Ramsey is of course a miss but we have to get used to games without him but we now have the players; and as BluebirdOctober62 says, it may well be a good decision given the defending we may have to do...

And Ollie Tanner is a game-changer from the bench... :ayatollah:

Be a real statement to the division if we manage to get a result today against a very good Sunderland team, without us having Ramsey too.

Sunderland having the better opening period though. Controlling the ball, and the game.
