Aaron Ramsey has been ruled out of Cardiff City's next three games and is a major doubt for Wales' crunch Euro 2024 qualifier against Croatia after picking up an injury in his knee.

Could break into play-off places with a win - surpassed expectations?

If we see the pre-season and how we trained and how the guys did in friendly matches and in Portugal - against Porto and Braga - we played good football. We just couldn’t finalise it. In the league we haven’t been able to keep the results when we’ve been leading in the games. Now, against the ball, we work much better and have better communication. We create better chances and we have to continue that.

It’s not perfect, we still have small mistakes in our game building. We have to work hard.

Result last night, easy to switch focus back to the league?

Yesterday, of course, we see the result and it was not good. But I have said before, we are focusing and our priority is on the league, not the cup. We wanted to go as far as possible, but yesterday we didn’t perform well. We lost the game and are out of the cup.

Now we focus and concentrate on the league.

Momentum positive in league…

The last three games we did really well and worked hard. But we cannot stop. We have to continue working hard. Not always will we play attractive football. Like in Sunderland, the opponent was better. We showed character there and we got the three points. Some games will be like that. The game on Saturday against Rotherham will also not be an easy game. No one should think that. We will have to work hard to get the points and we have to have full concentration.

Aaron Ramsey has been ruled out of Cardiff City's next three games and is a major doubt for Wales' crunch Euro 2024 qualifier against Croatia after picking up an injury in his knee.

The Bluebirds playmaker, 32, has missed the last three Cardiff matches, including the loss to Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night, with an injury, but it was hoped he would be back for the game against Rotherham United this weekend. However, manager Erol Bulut has revealed the Wales captain suffered an injury on the training ground on Monday and the club are nervously awaiting scans, hoping an operation won't be required.

"With Aaron Ramsey, two days ago, in training, he got an injury," Bulut said. "I have the report from our medical department that he will not be available to us for three weeks. Something with his tendon in his knee, the same knee he had an operation many years ago. Whether it’s a rupture or not, there will be a final check to see what the situation is.

Ramsey available?

How big a loss?

We will miss him, for sure. When we can see the last game against Sunderland, we did a great job and worked really hard against the ball. But with the ball, we need a player like Ramsey. He can link the game. We have to take it as it is right now and the players we have will do their best to make that position good in the next few games.

Rotherham?

Rotherham, the style they try to play they don’t build up from the goal. It’s long balls and they try to catch the second balls and have mostly counter-attacking football. We have to be prepared for the style and how they play.

Nobody was expecting that at home we were going to lose to QPR. We dominated the game but we lost the game. Two counter-attacks and two goals. We cannot allow this anymore. Hopefully my players will have to be 100% on the field.

He was injured in the start of the season," the manager said of Robinson. "A long injury and then he came back again and was three weeks out. He came back slowly and today he played 70 minutes, he scored. He needs a bit more time to be fully in the game."

‘Rubin offensively makes good things, but is still keeping the ball too much. So we’re losing time, he’s losing time and the defenders can organise and it's too late when he tries to give the pass or shoot. Against the ball, he has to work much, much better.’

Aaron Ramsey will be out for a min of three weeks

"We already have a few injured players, like Josh Bowler and Callum O'Dowda. Josh is back running today, but Callum is not yet on the field. The healing with him is going a little bit slowly. I hope Josh will be back for next week, with O'Dowda maybe a little bit longer, perhaps two weeks.

"All the players have to be ready. Now it is time for other players to show themselves, when they get the shirt to be in the first eleven."

Erol Bulut said he has planned more talks in the coming weeks to tie down players who are out of contract next summer.

Cardiff have been proactive in recent weeks and moths in getting their players to sign longer-term deals in order to futureproof the club. Some of their biggest assets such as Mark McGuinness, Perry Ng, Ryan Wintle, Joel and Rubin Colwill, Eli King, Joel Bagan and Jak Alnwick have all signed fresh terms.

There are a few notable others who see their deals come to an end next summer, namely Jamilu Collins, Joe Ralls and Ollie Tanner. And Bulut said he plans to speak with some players with less than a year left to run in the not-so-distant future.

"In the coming weeks, we are going to sit down at the table with them. Let's see what we can do," Bulut said.

Ralls signed a two-year contract in the summer of 2022 after his deal had run out, but he admitted on Thursday he would love to remain at the club and is looking forward to holding talks.



Joe Ralls:


"Of course I am (looking to extend)," he said. "It's not something I take too much notice. I am just focused on having a good season, I knew we needed to have one this season and I am just buzzing to be playing football and with this team, it's really competitive.

"I am really excited for the season, so that's all my focus is on. Anything else in the background can then get sorted."
