Erol Bulut injury update:

Wed Oct 04, 2023 8:45 am

Erol Bulut:

"We have many injuries right now. Etete got a hamstring injury, I hope it's not something serious.”

Cardiff's injury troubles are mounting, with Ramsey, Jamilu Collins, Yakou Meite, Josh Bowler and Callum O'Dowda were all missing the trip to the Riverside on Tuesday night. In many ways, the international break cannot come quick enough for the Bluebirds.

"Collins had already from the last game, pain on his knee, it was swollen. Also his hamstring, so we didn't want to put him out there to play. And today, Etete also felt hamstring pain. But, OK, we have to go on with what we have.

"We was in a good way. In the last four games we did well, also before that. I don't want to put it on injuries, but we had some changing of position. Collins would have been in his position and Ng would have been in his position and maybe it would be different, I don't know.”

"I hope on Saturday [Collins] will be with us, because the knee was swollen from the last game and his hamstring problems from the few days before. We didn't want to risk it."

Clearly, Collins was a big miss up on Teesside. It forced Bulut to take Perry Ng out of his natural right-back position, being deployed on the left, with Ebou Adams getting the nod over Mahlon Romeo, some would say that decision backfired a little. But it's all borne out of a problem on that left-hand side.

Collins has been forced to play almost every minute in recent weeks owing to an injury to last year's first-choice left-back Callum O'Dowda. Unfortunately, it looks like it will be some time yet before we see the Irishman back out on the pitch of the Bluebirds.

Bulut said: "Callum O'Dowda, he will be not available for a few weeks because of the tendon problem he had on his adductors. From what I know, he will take a little bit longer."

Ramsey has been a big miss over the last four games. The Wales captain picked up a knee injury in training the week after he scored from the penalty spot in a win over Swansea.

There was initially talk that Ramsey would potentially need surgery to fix the problem, which would have suggested a lengthier spell on the sidelines, but in a more positive updates, Bulut now hopes that is not the case.

I've always had a bad feeling about injuries with this squad of players.
We seem to have quite a few players in the first team squad who have been susceptible to injuries.
I think the problem will very much hamper our progress this season and I have a horrible feeling we could soon start to plummet down the league table.

Mr birchgrove

We all have those fears of slipping down the table simply because of injuries etete could be the next to join
Unfortunatly we cannot do a thing until January so its a matter of sucking it up

Last season we had no aspirations apart from survival
same as this season
but since we have improved pushed into top 6 supporters views have changed and with ramsey on board also
we where starting to believe we could push on

We may still but logically with possibly 6/7 first 11 missing and the likes of sawyers on the bench still
does not do a lot for confidence that we may stay in the lofty position of top 6.

I think we'll win on Saturday and then there's the two week break.

A few players will be available again for Blackburn.

Not overly concerned, having injuries/suspensions is expected.

It means other players get their chance, players like Etete and Tanner have had that and taken their chance.

Personally, I have felt far more optimistic about the club this season than just about survival.
Obviously, we appear to have a manager who is the real deal.
As a result, despite the embargo, we have brought in better quality like Aaron Ramsey, Dimitrios Goutas, Manolis Sipios, along with more depth in attack. As you say, we also just won four league matches in a row moving us to top 6 prior to last night.

I was simply making the point that with a squad which includes the likes of Collins, Ramsey, Ralls, O'Dowda, Adams, Colwill, Meite, Robinson, Etete and Bowler we seemed to have a rather injury prone bunch.
Obviously, not all these are currently out injured, but it seemed to be only a matter of time before the list of unavailable players lengthened. This is now proving to be true. After all, we are only ten games into the season with quite a few difficult fixtures before the end of the year.
If we stay top half by Christmas, we should all be delighted.

Agree with this. Injuries piling up might be expected but is a huge concern when we're barely in October!

When is Bowler expected back? What's wrong with him?

All clubs get injuries and the majority have played the same amount of games.

We could of played other players.

You know, people were saying Boro away was winnable but you could see they were starting to turn a corner with their results.

Watford are unpredictable - blowing hot and cold. Hope they're cold when we play them.

Biggest advantage for us being home is the stadium bounces at times and the players feed of us, haven’t seen us so strong at home in a long time, need to keep that up tbh

Agree about Boro. Was obvious they were turning a corner. But, they were nothing special.
However, I feel if we had just: JC, and Meite fit we would have beaten them. Just far too many injuries to deal with.

Injuries mount for Cardiff City boss Erol Bulut -

"With Aaron we were waiting to see how long he would be out and were hopeful he would not need surgery," said Bulut.

"But right now, he will be out for at least eight to 10 weeks and if he needs surgery, it could be up to [an extra] 12 weeks.

"If something happens during his rehab, it could be that we will have to add 12 weeks.

"He is a key player for us for sure, you can see how well he links the game and of course we will miss him.

"But we have to manage with the players that we have.

"We have four main players from the squad who we cannot use."Cardiff should welcome back Josh Bowler and Jamilu Collins from injury for Saturday's visit of struggling Watford, but Bulut says the international break is coming at a good time for his side.

"For sure it is well timed for us," he said. "But even this two weeks will not help us to get back some of our players."
