" Pleased with our start to the season "

Sat Oct 07, 2023 4:05 pm

Not the result we wanted today, but was always looking like a draw after they equalised.

11 games in, and I'm satisfied with our start.

We've played good football and find ourselves in 8th place.

One point off the play-offs and nine clear of the bottom three.

Is there room for improvement? Of course.

But I think Bulut is doing a good job, especially considering some on here said we would be fighting relegation all season again.

Hopefully we can kick on after the international break.

I was feeling comfortable until these last couple of games where the real problem is showing itself and that is our fitness levels.

Its a real problem that cannot be sorted overnight and I fear for us now.

Bulut is doing a great job and above my expectation. We've played better football, scored in nearly every game and we won the derby in style. I am keeping my feet on the ground though. This is not a promotion team as we don't have the depth but feel we are growing something for the future. Will enjoy the international break now for a change.

As soon as we hit relegation survival level I will feel a lot better.

Agree, happy where we are at this point in the season taking into account all the nonsense that has gone on over the last few years. Strengthening in January is key to keeping us in the top half of the table. :bluescarf:

After ten games, Bulut is doing a good job
Better then I expected
Great Derby win of course
Below average today but Watford are better then their league position suggests

Yes agreed 8th in the league feels a lot better.

But that tells us how low we had started to become and instead of believing in promotion or play - offs we are now happy to be not involved in a relegation battle

I'll be glad when we have enough points to avoid relegation.

It's chalk and cheese from the last three seasons......

The fact I am disappointed with today's performance shows how far we have come in such a short time

I am firmly on the train :bluebird:

I think we will avoid relegation, most likely comfortable, but what I have seen of late I see mid table. I don't think the squad is fit enough to be top 6.

Nothing to do with fitness. We don’t have enough quality, especially up front. Decent start but we’ve played some poor teams. Watford were crap today but then so were we. Generally when we have played a good side we’ve come up short which suggests mid table to me, but after last season I’ll take it.

Our manager needs time here to build /work on the squad he has and get use to the Championship .

Happy where we are and the fact we have not let in a late goal of late to cost us points - has to be 8/10 .

So why fear for us?

That’s above where most predicted we would be pre season.

My thoughts …. Bulut did well to get what he did in Embargo but need more if we want to progress.
Obviously doesn’t feel Robinson or Colwill do the work off the ball that Ramsey does which is a shame as as we need their attacking skills in the “10” position as it doesn’t suit Wintle . Could do with a goalscorer but they tend to cost money which we didn’t have. Don’t think we are play off material yet but if Bulut gets backed maybe he can strengthen again in January

Because we could easily slip down into a fight. Hopefully not though.

Ah keeping your options open then. So you can say I said that would happen if we do?

Just like the transfer window in a way. Not you I will add.

I’m gonna stick my neck out and say top 8.

Mate I totally get you.
As a city fan for years like yourself, I find myself constantly thinking ‘we’ll deffo get a draw now’ if we’re 2-0 up with 10 mins to go.
Regarding relegation I’m pretty sure that will be Wednesday, QPR and Rotherham do I’m not worrying about that.
Imo we’ll end up around 10th. If we can be even higher when Ramsey comes back and we can sign 2-3 quality players in January then who knows.

Yep if we can pull away from those 3 I will perhaps relax a bit more.

This is a transformation from the previous 3 years. We are actually playing football again!
I am happy with progress to date. Like other years it could have gone wrong again but it hadn’t so far. If we stay around mid table and then have a good January (ie sign Moore ) and with Ramsay back it still could be an interesting season.

You say we’ve played some poor teams, we’ve also played Leicester, Leeds, Ipswich, Sunderland and Middlesbrough away.

I think to be in 8th at this stage, 1 point off 6th, despite that is fantastic.

A few interesting responses to this.

People seem to comparing how we're doing to whether we're ready for the top six, even though at the start of the season they said we'd be in a relegation battle all season.

I have always said a mid table finish would be progress from last season, and then we can target the play-offs next season.

When you look at our team last season, it is very very difficult to turn that into a top six team in just one transfer window - even more so as we couldn't pay fees in that window.

Being honest, our start to the season has exceeded my expectations. I certainly don't see us in a relegation battle and we could even target a top half finish with the right additions in January.

That would set us up well for next season.

100% this.

been on a very long walk and reflected.

The Colwill comment yesterday was a deflection from EB for the consecutive last 60 min collapse of the team. As soon as the opposition gets brave and presses we fold. The normal answer for enticing the press is to bypass it and go over or through it.

Siopsis has been great at passing through it especially when the recipient is Rambo.
The only player with the work rate of Wintle and the skill of Colwill is Rambo, since the injury, EB has to decide on the safety first option of Wintle (holding onto a point) or go for it with Colwill (when trailing). He is a very safe manager.

Etete got the better of his centre halfs against Rotherham and gave us a platform so we could go over any press, but they never really pressed us and allowed us a lot of time on the ball. But that his best game and it was very one sided.

With Rambo we got away with not having a championship starter "9", without him we are very functional but at least we have some sort of set play game with pace and trickery on the flanks so we always have a chance.

We are in the championship, we are never going to thread through balls to a Vardy-type player we need the option to go long and keep the ball.

We look tired and unfit because we give the ball away too much, we looked like Morisons team yesterday, passing for passing sake, moving the responsibility to do something positive to a team mate, and that poor sucker was the keeper far too often.

We are definitely work in progress and it is refreshing that EB even questioned his team and himself.

I maintain we are a decent "9" away from a good team and he is a very good manager
